Rollout on 27L

Take off is always exciting, the start of another flight. Here’s a look at the rollout on 27L at Philadelphia International Airport.

Of course there are many professionals behind every commercial flight: Pilots, cabin staff, mechanics, air traffic controllers, bag handlers and so forth. Do your best to be a good passenger by cooperating and being kind to your fellow travelers.

Civil Air Patrol

You might see the Civil Air Patrol at your local small airport. Their planes are distinctively marked as you see in this example below:

They perform search missions as well as many other important functions, including teaching young people about aviation. It’s good to have people out there doing this job. You never know when you might need them.

Vertical Flight

When it comes to point to point flying, the helicopter wins hands down. Of course, a price must be paid in terms of fuel and other overall costs. A rotary wing aircraft is not cheap. But they will impress you in many categories. Here’s a look at a Sikorsky.

This corporate machine delivers people in relative comfort. Around the Northeast USA, helicopters like this make a lot of sense in the business world as their clients are above the traffic and where they want to be when they need to be there. No matter what you’re flying, always do your checklist.

KSBY and KOXB

Took a nice cross-country flight the other day. Winged down through Delaware to Salisbury, MD and then over to Ocean City. Here’s a look at Salisbury’s airport, KSBY:

There was still snow on the ground, making the field a little difficult to pick out from a distance. Nice tower controllers there by the way. Then here’s a look at Ocean City airport, right in from the beach:

Visibility was not the best throughout the whole flight. Couldn’t climb up as high as I like to for a better view. I did make it across the mouth of the Delaware Bay for a stop at Cape May Airport, too. Sorry, no photo this time. Nonetheless, the Diamond DA-40 performed like a champ in the frigid air, giving good economy and speed. Another great flight in the log book.
