Cessna 140

A true classic showed up at the local airport. Take a look:

That’s a Cessna 140 from the mid-1940’s if my research is correct.

Those are classic lines for sure. What a bunch of adventure this plane has seen.

And the paint lends itself to adventure as well, bright colors making a bold statement. This aircraft is proof that as long as you take care of them, they’ll last a long time.

Pulling and Pushing

I haven’t seen one of these aircraft in a long time. There are two engines, but both on the centerline, one pulling and one pushing.

And here’s a look at the aft engine between the tail booms:

One of these days I have to go up in a plane like this. Would be interesting to experience the flying characteristics and see how it handles. Blue skies above, prepare for takeoff.

Landing KOQN (Brandywine Airport)

It’s fall foliage season, so head out to your local airport and go for a ride. Take in the sights. That’s what I was doing when I took this flight in a venerable Cessna 172. Was a little early for the fall colors, which had just started. Took the opportunity to polish some skills. Here’s a landing:

As you can see, lots of bugs died on the windscreen that day. Was a decent landing and a great flight. Looking forward to many more soon.

Civil Air Patrol

You might see the Civil Air Patrol at your local small airport. Their planes are distinctively marked as you see in this example below:

They perform search missions as well as many other important functions, including teaching young people about aviation. It’s good to have people out there doing this job. You never know when you might need them.
