Nikon F3

Way back when (the 1980’s anyway) the Nikon F3 was a top of the line 35mm camera. After saving my money for a long time, I bought a new one in 1986. It’s a little dusty, but here it is, complete with the MD4 motor drive:

This camera has traveled everywhere I’ve gone, never once missing a shot. Here’s a look at the other side:

And speaking of the MD4 motor drive, the ergonomics of it were perfect for my hands as seen in the next photo:

The motor drive, with 8 AA batteries, made for a sturdy hand-hold and great base. I’m not sure how many rolls of film I ran through this camera, thousands at the very least. Having just found a local lab that will process b/w film, I’ve decided to take it out for a spin, just to see how things look. Of course, it’s all digital now, but the simplicity of this camera (in today’s terms) can’t be beat. Remember, it’s the quality of the light, much more than the quality of the camera, that makes for great photos. Try it, you’ll see.

Jamis Renegade (video review)

I posted a few months ago about the Jamis Renegade Elite bicycle. Well, now I’ve ridden more than 2,900 miles and it’s time for a video review. Here it is.

This has been an excellent bicycle, exceeding all my expectations. Gravel, asphalt, trails, the Renegade rolls through and over it all. The Shimano gears have been reliable with only a few mis-shifts. The disc brakes are the best, allowing for safe riding in various conditions and the ability to feather the stopping power exactly the way it is needed.

All in all, a great bike. I look forward to many more miles, losing more weight, and having lots of fun.

Interesting Oddity

As posted previously on The Bent Page, I assembled a computer for personal use. Well, while visiting a computer shop, I discovered this unit, operating in mineral oil.

As the mineral oil does not conduct electricity, the computer functions perfectly. Stays cool this way as well. Not something I would do myself, but an interesting oddity to behold.

Tiny Car

Not sure what kind of car this is, but I spotted it on the street and took a quick snap.

Looks like a small engine tucked in the side, probably just enough for in-town speeds. Parking is surely easier. It would fit perfectly with the tiny house movement. Be careful on the roads.
