Jamis Renegade (video review)

I posted a few months ago about the Jamis Renegade Elite bicycle. Well, now I’ve ridden more than 2,900 miles and it’s time for a video review. Here it is.

This has been an excellent bicycle, exceeding all my expectations. Gravel, asphalt, trails, the Renegade rolls through and over it all. The Shimano gears have been reliable with only a few mis-shifts. The disc brakes are the best, allowing for safe riding in various conditions and the ability to feather the stopping power exactly the way it is needed.

All in all, a great bike. I look forward to many more miles, losing more weight, and having lots of fun.

Chester County Gravel Fondo

The Chester County Gravel Fondo provided an opportunity to put my Jamis Renegade to through its paces. More than 300 riders showed up. Here’s a photo from the rider brief before the start:

As you can see, the course began at Victory Brewing, which provided lots of parking as well as beverages and food after. The ride went through beautiful countryside that included views of horses, cattle, and plenty of fields. Sorry, was too busy riding up the hills to take any photos, which I regret. Still, it was a challenging ride and the Renegade took all the gravel in stride. Not one flat, either. Looking forward to doing this again.

Cyclocross anyone?

Readers of my blog will note recent posts about bicycling. Well, not only have the distance of the rides been extended beyond 70 miles, there have been some cyclocross type of additions to the course. Here’s a photo from the Philadelphia Art Museum steps:

Yes, those are the famous steps from the movie, Rocky. At this point, the bike was shouldered and carried up for the following view:

Next time, there will be no pause to snap photos. These type of cross training activities make for a more interesting and challenging ride. Plus, they’re tons of fun. Enjoy the ride; share the road.

Metric Century

Conditions were ideal for bicycling. Therefore, I decided to go for a metric century, that is 100 kilometers or 62.1371 miles. The ride was along the Schuylkill River Trail and then the Perkiomen trail, which included this hill.

Of course, going down was fun. Coming up was quite a bit of work. Got to use that granny gear on my bike. Wow! What a workout. In the end, I managed to go 67 miles, including about 30 on gravel, which was a good test of my new Jamis Renegade. Bike did fine. Now I need a rest.
