Jamis Renegade (1 year anniversary)

Today marks the end of the first year riding my Jamis Renegade Elite. Logged 4,371 miles, according to the Garmin 520 I use to monitor my progress.

The bike has been great. Zero problems with the Shimano running gear, Clement tires rolling fine, and my huge pages tote all my gear with no worries. I can recommend this bike for long gravel rides or even just as your daily bike on the highways and groomed trail. Looking forward to many more rides and miles in the future.

Jamis Renegade (video review)

I posted a few months ago about the Jamis Renegade Elite bicycle. Well, now I’ve ridden more than 2,900 miles and it’s time for a video review. Here it is.

This has been an excellent bicycle, exceeding all my expectations. Gravel, asphalt, trails, the Renegade rolls through and over it all. The Shimano gears have been reliable with only a few mis-shifts. The disc brakes are the best, allowing for safe riding in various conditions and the ability to feather the stopping power exactly the way it is needed.

All in all, a great bike. I look forward to many more miles, losing more weight, and having lots of fun.

Chester County Gravel Fondo

The Chester County Gravel Fondo provided an opportunity to put my Jamis Renegade to through its paces. More than 300 riders showed up. Here’s a photo from the rider brief before the start:

As you can see, the course began at Victory Brewing, which provided lots of parking as well as beverages and food after. The ride went through beautiful countryside that included views of horses, cattle, and plenty of fields. Sorry, was too busy riding up the hills to take any photos, which I regret. Still, it was a challenging ride and the Renegade took all the gravel in stride. Not one flat, either. Looking forward to doing this again.

Disc Brakes, bicycle

My new Jamis Renegade Elite is my first bicycle with disc brakes. What an improvement! In various conditions, these brakes are smooth and powerful.

The response is reliable, even when things get wet. And, it only takes a little pressure to apply them. Given that my rides are getting progressively longer and with more inclines, it’ll be a nice feature, one that improves safety.
