Symmetry Docks

Here’s one of the images taken with the Vermeer Pinhole Camera this month. A view of the docks on a nearby lake.

This is Kodak Tri-X 400 film, 120 size. Pinhole images have that dreamy feel to them, as they’re not quite sharp. This one was made around dawn. More to follow.

Ground Glass

When using a view camera, the ground glass provides a place to see the image. I’m changing the original ground glass in my Wista to one marked for other film sizes.

I have various roll film backs for those size images, which provides a different creative opportunity. Roll film is also less costly to purchase and develop. And this is another advantage of the view camera, using different size film and images to achieve your vision. They’re quite a bit of work, and worth it.

Kodak Tri-X 320

Boxes of Kodak’s venerable Tri-X 320 in 4×5 arrived recently. It’s time to load this film into the holders and get out with the Wista SP for some large format photography.

It’s been a long time since I’ve made images with this gear. Results to follow, subject to change, and always something of a surprise. Will post as things develop.

4×5 Camera, again?

Years ago, I sold off most of my large format camera gear. Was sad to see it go, but it seemed the world was going digital. I kept a few things, mostly for sentimental reasons. Then, I started using my old 35mm gear with film. Was very rewarding and actually made a few good images. Decided to take out the Wista SP 4×5 camera for a look.

There it is, ready to go after all these years. Results will be a while in the making. Probably start with some roll film 6×9 images then graduate back to 4×5. Stay tuned.
