Carrier bow…

Here’s another look at that aircraft carrier mothballed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This time, it’s a look directly at the bow.DSC_1228

There’s plenty of air draft on such a ship, which means some clever engineering to keep it right side up. It’s always impressive to see such a massive structure up close. I’d like to see one moving at speed some day.

Big Solar

At Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, there are several alternative energy installations. One of them is this huge solar array that hangs on the south side of the stadium.

Not sure how much electricity that generates, but it’s certainly quite large. You can barely see the vertical windmills on the top left corner of the array. Might have to check into this and see how much juice they get. It would be interesting to know.

Washington’s Chapel, Valley Forge

Visitors to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, USA will find some beautiful scenery and this stunningly beautiful chapel.

The attached cloister is a good place to meditate. Inside you’ll find a marvelous space with historic flags and stained glass.

And don’t miss the many details, such as this figure in the wrought iron:

There’s plenty to do at Valley Forge so take your time.

Keys

There’s a key for every lock, or so the saying goes. I found literally thousands of keys welded into a giant work of art covering the outside of a locksmith shop on 7th Avenue in New York City. Here’s a close up:

Surely catches the eye and advertises at the same time.  Imagine all the keys you’ve had over the years. Probably a couple of hundred. Anyway, put them to good use, lock something up!
