Buffam’s Tropical Haven, Aruba, video

My shack in Aruba needed some major interior work, which meant I was going to be out doors for a few days. This wasn’t the first time, but luckily, I have a great place to tuck in, and that is Buffam’s Tropical Haven. This is a bed and breakfast type of establishment with just a few suites available. Here’s a video that shows you Buffam’s rooms and common areas, as well as how to get there from the main highway.

As you saw in that video, Buffam’s is a cozy spot. You have a swimming pool, the barbecue, and those patios almost all to yourself. And check out their prices! You’ll be surprised at how reasonable it is to stay there, which means you can stay longer or have more cash to enjoy during your visit to the island. I’m back in my own digs but still stop by Buffam’s for coffee and a chat because, well, it’s a comfortable spot with great hosts.

Corner by the Sea

Before obtaining my shack in Aruba, I used to stay at the Aruba Beach Chalets, which have been shown on The Bent Page a few times. Well, here’s another view, this one from above.

It is the red tile roof building directly on the sea. Some friends will be staying there in a few months. We enjoy sitting on the deck, chatting over coffee in the morning, looking out at the sea from this little corner of the world in Savaneta, Aruba. When you’re in a place like this, it’s easy to forget about the rest of the world. As long as you have the basics, there isn’t much to worry about.

Hyatt, Aruba, Aerial

People ask me about hotels in Aruba, where they are, what the complexes are like, and so forth. There’s nothing better than an aerial photo to put it all in perspective. Here’s a look at the Hyatt Hotel as seen from above:

You see how the hotel structure wraps around the pools, bars, and restaurants. In the lower left corner is a favorite bar of mine. I used to linger there for hours, writing and drinking. Just above that is the restaurant area where they serve a very good Sunday Brunch. The Japengo Restaurant is open in the evening, serving creative dishes for those with exotic tastes. Of course, the pools are lots of fun. Don’t miss the slide on the lower right side of the frame. Just off the bottom of the photo is the beach. Everything you need is right there.

Bon dia from Aruba.

Progress at the Ritz, Aruba

The Ritz-Carlton in Aruba has been moving along. I drove by there yesterday and snapped a photo of the construction site. It doesn’t look like much, but the foundation is apparently finished and the framework has begun to rise. Take a look.

This hotel is supposed to be the last one built on Palm Beach. We’ll see. The traffic circle nearby is complete with the exception of the landscaping in the middle. This was an improvement for traffic flow along the main highway as well as to the immediate inland neighborhoods. Aruba has grown by leaps and bounds since my first visit many years ago. It makes you wonder, how far will it go?
