Aruba’s Coastal Linear Park is well underway. This is going to be a promenade of sorts stretching from Queen Beatrix Airport all the way to the hotel area. The following photo was taken across the street from the Talk of the Town Hotel, near the traffic circle at the Cas di Cultura.
That’s a tremendous number of pavers they’re using! It also appears that kiosks like the one shown below will host shops or info centers or snack stands, which would be welcome to those using the park.
The project appears to be a great asset in the making. Hopefully it will be possible to ride bicycles, walk, and just sit by the sea for a look at the sunset. Aruba deserves credit for installing such a feature, making an already welcoming island that much better.
Bon dia.

I like to ride my bicycle from Savaneta over to the point where I took this photo. The route takes me past the location of the new windmills and several other interesting sites. There is very little traffic, which makes for safer riding, too. The landscape on the windy side can be dramatic, with cliffs, crashing surf, herds of wild goats, and the occasional ship far off at sea. If you take this drive, use caution, take water and a cellphone, and don’t go alone.
As you can see, it’s a full suspension mountain bike. This is more of a down hill rider than an all-purpose mountain bike. That rear suspension makes it heavy, which is good for my cardio workout. Plus, it takes all the abuse of riding on some of the rougher trails. Then there are the disc brakes.
I prefer the disc brakes. They’ll stop you on a dime and in my experience work better in wet conditions. My bike in the States has your standard friction brakes on the rims. They do the job, but if I ever upgrade that unit, I’ll go with the discs.
Hard to beat that view here in Aruba. I take it easy going down. There is a herd of goats that grazes the area, a bunch of lizards, and various other creatures that have a habit of darting out at the last second. Plus, if you blow a tire or experience some other mechanical failure the tumble will not be pleasant.
Darn Tough Vermont (video review)
I saw Darn Tough Vermont socks advertised and decided to give them I try. VERY IMPRESSIVE. Now, you’re saying, “Socks, what’s the big deal?” Well, if you’re on your feet all day, maybe for work or maybe for play, good socks make a big difference. I went with the run/bike model, finding them to be everything they are advertised to be. Strong, light, VERY comfortable. Check out the video:
Having used them in various applications, I can say they live up to their name. Please note: I think the sizes run a little small, but they fit snug to the foot, which is important. You don’t want your sock shifting around; that’s how you get blisters. These socks do the job and are guaranteed for life, which is another amazing feature. As always, you get what you pay for. Since these socks are made in the USA and awesome, they cost a few bucks more. Worth every cent!
Also, if you saw my previous post, I really did have a collision with an SUV. Generally healing okay, thank you.
