As part of the “Waking the Vatican” tour, one can enjoy the Sistine Chapel with a few dozen other visitors. This is a marvelous experience, seeing the work of Michaelangelo in an almost private moment. As large as the chapel is, it does feel private. Here’s a video showing the chapel.
Amazing. Seriously. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend this experience. Do your homework about the art and history of the place in order to get the most out of it. Linger as long as possible.
Tucked into a hillside deep in the Asturian countryside, you’ll find the Santa Cueva de Covadonga.
A staircase leads to the chapel and it is worth the climb.
The photo above gives some perspective to the terrain here, which is quite mountainous. Pulling back a little, you can see the altar to the right of the chapel.
This is a place of pilgrimage for many believers. It was impressive to see their devotion and respect.

The attached cloister is a good place to meditate. Inside you’ll find a marvelous space with historic flags and stained glass.
