Win an Advance Review Copy!

My next novel, Dark Currents, will be released on 26 June. And here’s even better news… you can win an advance review copy, the same printed version that goes out to reviewers before the official release. Here’s a look at the cover.

The contest to win the book is hosted on Facebook, which means you have to go to my Facebook page and “like” me to enter. Official details will be on Facebook around noon, today, 9 May 2012. Don’t worry, it’s easy. You’ll just have to guess which beach is behind me in the author photo in Dark Currents. So, don’t delay! Head over to Facebook, like me, and enter your answer. Thanks and happy reading!

Hollywood Station, video review

Hollywood Station, by Joseph Wambaugh is a wild ride through Holly-weird. This story is perfectly paced and draws you in through a series of vignettes that are alternately heart-breaking and comical. Here’s my video review:

This is the first book by Wambaugh that I’ve read. I look forward to several more in the same location and with many of the same characters. If you like you’re cop stories with heart, this is the book for you. Not all of it is pretty, but it is certainly realistic.

The Rules of Civility, video review

I just finished reading The Rules of Civility by Amor Towles. Here’s my book review video:

It is a shame for this book. The writing is truly brilliant, but it was squandered on a meandering, myopic, mélange of a story lacking enough plot to keep the reader engaged. Sure, the descriptions of New York, the set pieces of the rich and famous partying are intriguing in themselves, but without building toward anything, they fall flat.

Facebook at last!

It seems I’ve finally entered the 21st century. Despite my affinity for fountain pens, slow flying airplanes, and traditional story-telling, I have relented and a Facebook author page is now available. This is a good thing because many of you are on Facebook and it will be very convenient to find The Bent Page, my YouTube videos, my website, and the latest about my books. You’ll also see a steady stream of updates on what I’ve been doing (getting in trouble) lately.

So, here’s how to find me on Facebook. Log in to your Facebook account like always. Copy this link:

and paste it into the URL window at the top of your browser and it will send you to my page. It should look like this:

When you click on the thumbs-up “like” button, you’ll be taken to my page with an update on the new book, Dark Currents. Alternatively, you can search for Daniel Putkowski, and my page should pop up. I’m looking forward to connecting with more people in this newfangled way. All the best, and happy reading!
