Driving to Alta Vista Chapel, Aruba

The Alta Vista Chapel is a tranquil site to visit here in Aruba. The little building sits on a bluff overlooking the sea, perfectly proportioned and quite charming for photographs. Here’s a video showing how to drive there as well as a look inside the chapel itself. I also include a few historical notes about the site.

Alta Vista sees plenty of visitors, especially during the busy season. However, it remains an endearing site. Please treat it with respect. Bon dia.

Aruba Cruise Arrival Tips, video

Here’s a short video for folks arriving in Aruba via cruise ship (or those of you who want a quick overview of the island). You’ll see the gate where you exit the port area, a few tour buses, some shops, activities, and a few sights.

I hope you enjoyed that little informative piece. More videos from Aruba and elsewhere are on deck, so stay tuned, and don’t forget to “like” me on Facebook to stay current.

View from Savaneta, Aruba (video)

When first-time visitors join me in Aruba, I like to take them on a drive to the top of the hill in Savaneta. There’s a water storage tank up there, delivering delicious (and precious) drinking water to the area below. You can also see most of the southern end of the island, including San Nicolaas, the oil refinery, the loading dock nearby, and all the neighborhoods up as far as Pos Chiquito and a little farther to the ships in the nearby anchorage. Here’s a video with driving directions on how to get there and a sweeping panorama of the view. If you have a fast internet connection, watch it in the highest resolution possible for maximum enjoyment.

That was worth the drive, wasn’t it? I like going up there every once in a while for sunset, too. On the right day, it’s spectacular. Bon dia.

Lourdes Grotto and Windmills, Aruba

Today’s video takes you on a drive to the Lourdes Grotto in San Nicolaas, Aruba and for a look at the giant windmills at Vader Piet. Consistent with my other “driving directions” pieces, this one shows you how to get there, from the main highway approaching the traffic circle at the west end of San Nicolaas then to the Lourdes Grotto with a quick peek at the statuary, then a litter further out to Vader Piet for a look at those big windmills. Here we go:

Another pleasant drive, this time with a little rain. Although Aruba is known to be a “desert island,” it does rain here from time to time, especially this time of year. And lately, over the past several years, the island is more green than ever. Enjoy your visit.
