Snow Belly

As mentioned previously, I’m in the process of remodeling a bathroom at my shack in Aruba. Of course, tile is required to cover the walls. One of the supply houses where I purchased some tile has a house cat. They call her “Tiles.”

Tiles is not a very creative name but I give them credit for the effort. I renamed her “Snow Belly.” I mean, check out that fine white fur there. She’s doing a good job, taking out mice and other small creatures, all the while keeping herself in pretty form. You have to celebrate that. And remember, be kind to animals, it’s one of the keys that unlocks the gates of heaven.

Down to Four Walls

I apologize to my regular readers for not posting lately. Take a look at the photo below:

No, that’s not my prison cell in some forgotten corner of the world. Those are three of the four walls of a bathroom at my shack here in Aruba. With the help of a couple of talented fellows, I hammered off the old tile, removed the fixtures, took things back to the bare bones. Now it’s going to be a rebuilding process. Get the walls plumb and even. Re-install the electrical equipment. Set new pipes, valves, and facilities. Tile everything and paint a few spots, too. Another week or two of tough work lies ahead. That small space cooks in this Caribbean heat.

Ah, but in the end it’ll be worth it. This is the last MAJOR project here. Then there will be more time for reading, writing, and wandering about the island. As always, stay tuned for the after photos.

Ah, remember when…

…the federal debt was ONLY 2 trillion dollars? That was back in 1986 or so. This year alone, the U.S. Federal Government blew through an extra trillion or so of borrowed money. Hey, no worries. Back in the day that was a lot of money. Today? Chump change. Well, Ridley Scott and Mr. Grace made this commercial back in the mid-1980’s. Remember it?

I do. And even Dan Rather squeaked out a story about it, which must have been quite a stressing situation for him given his politics. Take a look.

Oh, well. Why worry? When the country goes bankrupt and your money is worthless, it’ll be a socialist paradise. Everyone will be equal at the bottom.

Guarding The Truck

My Chevrolet Pickup is a favorite vehicle, and here in Aruba it sits under the carport much of the day. There are a number of small creatures from the field in back and surrounding properties that might have designs on getting under the hood and chewing up the wires or the seats. No chance. I have a reliable guard on duty. You met him before. His name is Tux. Here he is on the roof, keeping a keen eye for trespassers.

He’s a tough little cat who takes no prisoners and has a snazzy uniform with the white trim. Once in a while he’ll take down a bird flying low, too. Amazing. Good job Tux!
