The Wooden Nickel

There are timeless names for things and places. The Wooden Nickel as a term has been around for quite a while. In Hillsborough, NC, I found a bar by that name and decided to stop in for some refreshment.

All types of craft beers available as well as a fully stocked bar for whatever else you might want to imbibe. Friendly vibe here, too, which is always nice. The kind of place where you can linger, chat, and enjoy.

Interesting Oddity

As posted previously on The Bent Page, I assembled a computer for personal use. Well, while visiting a computer shop, I discovered this unit, operating in mineral oil.

As the mineral oil does not conduct electricity, the computer functions perfectly. Stays cool this way as well. Not something I would do myself, but an interesting oddity to behold.

Tiny Car

Not sure what kind of car this is, but I spotted it on the street and took a quick snap.

Looks like a small engine tucked in the side, probably just enough for in-town speeds. Parking is surely easier. It would fit perfectly with the tiny house movement. Be careful on the roads.

Big Shake’s, Franklin, TN

In my pursuit for fantastic local joints, I stopped at Big Shake’s, Franklin, Tennessee.

imageThis is a small joint, several tables and a counter, as you can see in the photo below:

imageThey have some darn spicy chicken for sure, but I like the flavor of chicken just as it is. Nonetheless, I tried the regular and the “cry baby” which is a mild hot version.

The cry baby heat comes as a sort of after taste, just enough to tickle those receptors. As for the regular fried chicken, it was juicy and good. Next time, I’ll move up the heat ladder; see what happens. Enjoy every meal.
