Episcopal Palace, Gaudí, Astorga

Also in Astorga, Spain, the Episcopal Palace designed by Gaudí, welcomes visitors. This is a fascinating building that exhibits some of Gaudí’s trademarks yet in a more subtle way.

Creative minds give us spectacular things. No doubt about it.

Instant Film Redux

Out making tests today, and that included some instant film. Loaded a pack of Fuji FP-100c into the Hasselblad holder, attached it to the SWC/M, and here’s one of the pics.

Gives an idea of what the frame will look like. Has it’s own look, instant film does. Part retro, part impressionistic, part something else. Either way, it comes in handy to have an idea what you’re getting before you start burning film, especially with a rangefinder camera. Get out there and make some images.

St. Mark’s Comics

On St. Mark’s Place in New York City, you’ll find a great comic book shop. Here’s a look at the front.

I first went into this shop in 1986 when it was located on the upper level. Nonetheless, they still have all your favorite comic books from the major companies as well as the independents, not to mention a large selection of graphic novels, games, and other related material.

Friendly staff will help find what you’re looking for and give you the latest news from the business. Comic art can be fantastic, so take your time browsing. Just another form of story-telling. Enjoy them all.

Salamanca’s Cathedral

Salamanca, Spain, is blessed with a number of remarkable buildings, including the Catedral Nueva which is actually built adjacent to the older one.

Even my widest angle lens had trouble capturing the entire exterior in a single frame. Inside, the sweeping columns rise to amazing heights.

Quite a large amount of light falls into this building, compared to the Romanesque style cathedrals you’ll find in other cities. Heading to the “old” cathedral through a door, you’ll find a number of paintings such as these:

As well as some interesting tombs:

Back inside the “new” cathedral, you’ll find this pipe organ.

I found this bit of rope and tackle intriguing.

Equipment used to build the cathedral or hoist the bells? Maybe.

Of course, there is so much more to see during a visit to this sacred place. Take your time and plenty of photos. The cool air inside invites you to linger and ponder.
