The Continental, Philadelphia

Enjoyed a tasty business lunch at The Continental in Philadelphia. The restaurant is on the corner of 2nd and Market Streets, in the vicinity of several people with whom a do a lot business. So, it is a logical location. We were in a bit of hurry but hungry. Sat down at 1PM and by 1:15 we were eating. Service here is on top of everything. A couple of cups of minestrone (the soup of the day) and a grilled chicken melt with salad you see here:

Also a club sandwich that you see next:

Decent atmosphere here, especially if you get a booth by the windows from which you can watch the action in the street. Pay attention to business, but enjoy the meal. You can do both at The Continental, which is why I stop in here on a regular basis.

Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant

Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant has been on my list of places to check out for a long time. It’s located at the Millville, NJ airport, which is a place with tons of history, especially relating to the Second World War and P47 Thunderbolts. Of course, I’m a fan of history, airplanes, and good diners. Hence, Verna’s fits all three bills.

It’s a small place with a short counter and some tables among photos and airplane memorabilia.

Flyers and non-flyers will be at home here. So what about the food? This is a diner (in my humble opinion) so you can expect the usual burgers, club sandwiches, and specials. I went with the club sandwich and a side of fries. Let me say, they were both delicious, perfectly prepared, and served with a smile.

There was another quarter of the sandwich, but I ate it before remembering to take the photo. Anyway, it was all good and reasonably priced, not to mention served within sight of the runway. Can’t ask for more than that.

All the info you need is right there in the photo above. Call before you go as they do close for certain holidays and special events. Enjoy the flight and the meals!

Red Lion Diner

Diners are getting to be a theme on this blog. The Red Lion Diner is another of my favorites. It is located in Red Lion, New Jersey, USA, on the south west part of the traffic circle where Routes 206 and 70 meet. This is more or less the middle of New Jersey.

I’ve been visiting this place since the early 1990’s. It’s been remodeled a couple of times, expanded, and yet it still serves great food in a hurry. One of my favorites is the club sandwich. When you get one here, this is what they bring to the table:

Mayo is automatically on the side. Check out those Jersey Tomatoes and crispy bacon. Right on. My wife eats more reasonably than I do, ordering a chef salad and this is what arrived:

That is a work of art, my friends. All ingredients are “field fresh” in my opinion. They also have good chili here, french fries that are perfect, and a decent burger. So, maybe you’re passing through on the way to Cape May or elsewhere. Whatever the case, you’ll have a good meal here.
