Clarence Hotel, Windsor, England

The Clarence Hotel in Windsor, England, was a lucky find. It is located only a few blocks from the beginning of a nice pedestrian shopping/dining area, and only a few minutes more walking to Windsor Castle.

This is a cozy place with friendly and helpful staff. Because I stayed two different nights several days apart, I had the benefit of two different rooms. Here’s a look at the first room:

During my second stay, I was in this room, which I believe was called the “Emma Suite.”

And here’s a look at the bathroom, which was kind of like the one you might find on a cruise ship:

There’s a lovely garden on the grounds, a great place to relax, enjoy a beverage, and recuperate from a day of sightseeing.

As mentioned above, staff are very helpful, assisting me with the printing of my boarding pass, as well as providing a “full English” breakfast that you see in the next photo:

A big breakfast is part of my day, and The Clarence Hotel did a great job with the one you see above. I would recommend this place for those looking to have the comfortable bed and breakfast experience. Enjoy the journey and all the stops along the way.

Duchess of Cambridge (pub)

The Duchess of Cambridge is the name of a great pub across the street from Windsor Castle. I thought this might be a tourist joint, but truth be told, they serve fine food and booze in a friendly atmosphere. Hence, I dropped in for a couple of meals while in town. Started with this bowl of soup:

Move on to this fine dish, which was so tasty, I wish I could have eaten two platters:

On the healthier side, you can also have the shredded duck salad that you see next:

That’s a Blue Moon beer in the glass to the left. It was on tap this particular evening. Finally, you might like your pot pie style dishes, such as this one, a chicken and Windsor ham variety that was beautifully prepared and presented as such:

You might also like smoked haddock that was a special one night, that you see here:

Service is very good. You’ll also find friendly people working the bar where you might want to linger for a chat and a great variety of beer and whiskey. Enjoy every meal, especially when you travel.

The Full English (breakfast that is)

When in Rome… as the saying goes. So, while in England, I avail myself of the “Full English Breakfast” at the cozy little hotel where I spend some nights. Of course, there are some slight variations to this, but here’s a photo of the quintessential example:

As you can see, that’s quite a plate of food. Baked beans, fried egg, grilled tomato, bacon and sausage on the plate. Then toast, marmalade, juice, and coffee on the side. All this either fuels or conspires against a productive day. Depends on what you’re about. Either way, quite a lot of food. Enjoy every meal.
