Reporters at Work

There’s been some international news coming from Aruba in the past week or so. A swarm of reporters has descended on the island to bring live video to the world. Here is a photo of a group of them working in San Nicolaas, trying to get the shot of a suspect being escorted from the police station.

Check out the intrepid cameraman atop the van.

I have to admit, these people work very hard to get the shot. They were camped out all day for about ten seconds of material. That’s a long time to be in the Aruban sun without a drink. It’s a tough job that deserves more respect than it gets.

Steady now…

This blog carries some of my flying adventures. Regular readers will remember my recent adoption of the Cirrus S20 as the cross-country flying machine of choice. It’s a steady ship, capable of 135 knots cruising. The control yoke is mounted to the side, which actually works very nicely as the pilot can rest an arm on the molded door panel and be quite comfortable. Here’s a shot of me at the helm.

The Garmin G1000 avionics suite is impressive, too. Plenty of situational awareness, an excellent autopilot, and clear graphical representations of what’s going on with the airplane. Of course, take note to the old magnetic compass in the upper part of the photo. You have to have one of those to go flying. Even your commercial airliners have them. If all else fails, pick a heading and go for it.

Linear Park Construction, Aruba

Aruba’s Coastal Linear Park is well underway. This is going to be a promenade of sorts stretching from Queen Beatrix Airport all the way to the hotel area. The following photo was taken across the street from the Talk of the Town Hotel, near the traffic circle at the Cas di Cultura.

That’s a tremendous number of pavers they’re using! It also appears that kiosks like the one shown below will host shops or info centers or snack stands, which would be welcome to those using the park.

The project appears to be a great asset in the making. Hopefully it will be possible to ride bicycles, walk, and just sit by the sea for a look at the sunset. Aruba deserves credit for installing such a feature, making an already welcoming island that much better.

Bon dia.

Coming soon… adult pool.

The Marriott Hotel in Aruba is building an adults only pool. This sign showed up on the promenade connecting the hotel with the Ocean Club.

Just in case you’re confused as to how to dress and enjoy this kind of thing, they also posted this photo.

Anyone who has the pleasure of staying at the Marriott, let me know how this project turns out so I can update the blog here at The Bent Page.
