Digital Beach, Aruba

While taking an early morning walk on the beach this past weekend, I noticed plenty of electronic devices. This person had the complete rig with the iPod player and digital reader.

Nothing like making yourself at home on Palm Beach, Aruba. Of course, the electronic readers make it easier to tote around dozens of books without the weight and bulk. Have to love that. And the prices are usually a little less than print versions. As for music, well, you have to have your tunes. Just keep it low so you don’t disturb the rest of us chilling out under the Caribbean sun.

Bon dia.

Driving in Aruba

Driving in Aruba can be a contact sport. As they say in NASCAR, “Rubbing is racing,” or something like that. It was an exciting week for car crashes. A couple of rollovers and one into the ocean at Eagle Beach. Here’s a look from the local newspaper.

Let’s go in for a closer look at that one that went into the sea.

Wow, talk about doing it right when you do it. That driver had to work hard to get the car off that cliff. No doubt there’s an explanation. Be careful on the roads around here. Sometimes you might think you’re in a demolition derby.

Palm Beach Rainbow, Aruba

With all the rain Aruba has received in the past several months, there have been plenty of rainbows. This one showed up off the coast of Palm Beach this morning. Take a look at the panorama by clicking on the photo to enlarge it.

Here’s another angle in regular format.

The hotels and government have been doing a good job of keeping the beach tidy as these waves of weather pass over the island. Plenty of people were out strolling, reading, or just relaxing. Hey, that’s what the beach is for.

View from Claudia’s, Aruba

Claudia’s is a little bar along Aruba’s Palm Beach. Claudia herself is a charming Colombian lady who likes to chat, sling drinks, and smile the whole time. Here’s a view of the workspace.

Tucked away at the Playa Linda timeshare, you can’t miss the place as you walk along the beachfront promenade. Stop in for a cold beverage, some conversation, and take in this Caribbean scene.

That will thaw your bones on a cold January night, eh? Works for me. I was loitering here a few days, brushing up on my Spanish and making some notes for another Aruba story. There are plenty to tell, more than I’ll ever finish, which is remarkable for such a small island.

Bon dia.
