Steam Wheels

Was searching for movie ideas and headed out to the Strasburg Railroad where there’s live steam engines on the rails. For fun captured this video of the running gear:

It’s a tremendous amount of work keeping those engines and the rest of the equipment going. Plenty of people turn out almost every day to witness a piece of history, which is a good thing. Lots to learn in place like this. Plenty of ideas for movies, too.

Carrier at rest…

There’s an aircraft carrier at rest in the Philadelphia Navy Yard. Been tied up there for several years now. Finally got around to taking some photos and video. Here’s some live footage with an American Airlines jet overhead:

Aircraft on final to Philadelphia International Airport pass overhead, which made for an interesting view. More photos from this visit to come soon. Stay tuned.

SS United States (night)

The SS United States remains in Philadelphia at this time. Rumor has it, the ship will be moved into a graving dock for an inspection. Some years ago, I was testing a camera at night and took this footage.

The ship had ghost-like feel that night. In any case, she retains the record for fastest transatlantic voyage. It will be interesting to see if she gets a new life. Stay tuned!

Landing KOQN (Brandywine Airport)

It’s fall foliage season, so head out to your local airport and go for a ride. Take in the sights. That’s what I was doing when I took this flight in a venerable Cessna 172. Was a little early for the fall colors, which had just started. Took the opportunity to polish some skills. Here’s a landing:

As you can see, lots of bugs died on the windscreen that day. Was a decent landing and a great flight. Looking forward to many more soon.
