Aruba Beach Wedding

Aruba is a great wedding destination. During the northern winters you can have the perfect day here on the the island. One of the keys to a pleasant and memorable day is selecting the right location and official. The Bucuti Beach Resort and the Reverend Robert Gibson are a fantastic combination. Yes, Reverend Gibson is a friend of mine, but I’ve been to my share of weddings here in Aruba. His ceremony is the most thoughtful and heartfelt of any. Take a look at this video to get an idea of the setting and see Reverend Gibson in action.

It was the perfect day, complete with a beautiful sunset. If you’re thinking about having your wedding here, be sure to check out all your options and talk with others so that you are sure to have a stress free day.

Mangel Alto Snorkeling, Aruba

The Mangel Alto area of Aruba offers some very good snorkeling. There are several points of entry. Two are shown on the video clip here. There is a third if you drive down toward the beach, past the Nam Yong restaurant, which is located on Spanish Lagoonweg. The underwater still shots that are incorporated into the video were provided my Kent Gerber. Take a look at the video.

When snorkeling here, keep a close eye on the sea conditions. You want to move out toward the reef, but as you do, you’ll find the ocean a bit choppy. It’s not all that difficult to swim in this, just remain mindful of where you are in relation to the shore. I’ve also found some “holes” in the sandy floor in the calm area sheltered by the cliff. Here you’ll find some zany fish and other creatures. However, out near the reef is where you’ll find the best viewing. Again, special thanks to Kent for providing the still shots. Judging by the photos I’ve seen of the fish he has caught, he’s lucky they don’t take their revenge on him when he’s snorkeling. And as always, please respect the marine environment.

Bicycles, Aruba

Tri-Bike Aruba offers a number of bicycling options. They sell and rent bicycles. I’m also told that they will deliver them to your hotel, but I’ve never actually done that. I did purchase a mountain bike from them. The fellow who runs the shop knows his stuff. Here’s a look at their store in Santa Cruz.

Inside you’ll find a decent selection of road and mountain bikes as well as all kinds of accessories. They also do repairs if you meet with disaster. Fortunately, I haven’t had that happen just yet.

There are a number of bicycling groups on the island. I see them riding past my house, especially at the weekend. Please share the road with those of us who like to pedal our way from one end to the other. Masha danki!

Island Tour, Aruba

If you want to see the island of Aruba without doing the driving, you can hop aboard one of these former military trucks and go for half or full-day tours.

There will be music playing between the running commentary about the island. You’ll bounce over the rough roads, see the sights, and sometimes stop at a place like this:

The Urataka Center is actually a local joint, a sort of cross between a snack shop and a barroom. They make good pizza here as well as other fast food. It is on the way to and from the Arikok National Park. During the day they see plenty of tourists, but later in the afternoon and early evening there are more locals having their after-work beverages.

If you surf through my blog under the category of Aruba Sights, you’ll see the California Lighthouse, Baby Beach, the natural bridge, the gold mine ruins, and some other locations to which these tours will take you. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and take plenty of water!
