American Airlines Flight 56 (meals)

Continuing my journey that began with the meals you saw in the previous post, I enjoyed several more meals above 30,000 feet. Thanks to frequent flier miles, I was able to sit up front aboard American Airlines Flight 56, where the seating was spacious and service outstanding. So, let’s get on with those meals.

First came the champagne and warm nuts as you see in the next photo:

As you can see, I already polished off those mixed nuts. Next came more champagne with a little starter that was very, very good.

Then came an appetizer of Thai chicken with fruit that was extremely tasty as well as a flavorful corn chowder. Check it out in the photo below:

Of course it is important to have your greens. Hence, a fresh salad with the balsamic vinegar dressing you see here:

This was a grilled chicken with asparagus and tomatoes with a sort of potato pancake on the side. All great. After eating all this, I had no room for dessert. However, a bit later in this flight, there was a nice spread of snacks put out. Here it is:

All kinds of stuff there: Fresh fruit, crackers, cheese, sweets, much of which I enjoyed before going to sleep for the rest of the flight. I can’t say enough good things about the service aboard this flight. Cabin staff and crew did a wonderful job of making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the flight. Thanks again, American Airlines.

 

American Airlines (meals) December 2013

Took a couple of American Airlines flights recently, my carrier of choice. The airline has instituted a “select your meal” type of plan, which I find very helpful. You get to make a choice between a couple of entrees, which certainly leads to a more satisfied customer. So, on the first leg, I chose the “tortilla soup.” Below you see the whole tray:

This was a tasty, lighter selection. A couple of small cheese wedges came with the grapes and crackers. Nice treat! During the second flight, I went with the chicken salad that you see here:

Again, I found this to be tasty, lighter fare when it comes to airlines meals. The salad was packed with pecans, slices of pear, and plenty of greens. In general, I think airline food has been improving recently. At least, I have found the food to be better than it was. Sit back, relax, enjoy the flight, and please follow ALL crew member instructions. They are there to make your trip safe.

Travelers like to complain about airline food, but rarely do they do anything about it. My suggestion: take your own. Stop in to your local “dollar” store and select a few containers that will work for the type of meals you like. They have to be small enough to fit in your carry-on luggage as well as to meet the security requirements. Easy enough. Here’s my most basic meal, one that has served me well for relatively short flights, up to about 2 hours. Check out the video:

Naturally, you can customize that to suit your tastes, or add other items in the accessory pack. Be creative! There’s no reason not to have something satisfying to eat. So, instead of whining about the chow, make your own and let the person next to you be jealous. I have several more of these videos on the way showing the different meals mentioned in this one.
