Aqua Grill, Aruba

Aqua Grill Restaurant is located near the high rise hotel area on Aruba’s Palm Beach. You can walk there in a few minutes from any of the hotels and if you’re staying in the low rise area it’s barely a five minute drive. This place is known for seafood. We sat down for a nice supper at a place that I’ve passed many times but had not had the opportunity to give a try. Well, one appetizer was crab cakes.

Plenty of real crab meat there and not the least bit greasy. Another appetizer was a mixed salad. You have to eat your greens every day!

Then came the main course. A sea bass from Chile with the trimmings.

And a top sirloin, too, because I really don’t like fish.

The meals were tasty and well presented by a caring staff. Service here is well worth the 15% service charge. I tried to snap a photo of the room, it didn’t come out so well.

There on the left is a massive wine cooler. Look over the wine list carefully and you’ll surely find something you like. All in all, Aqua Grill is a solid seafood house worth your money. It’s at the upper limit of my budget so I’ll have to save up before coming back.

Bon dia from Aruba.

Señor Frogs, Aruba

Señor Frogs is a fun place to have a snack and a drink. They recently relocated from the seaport area to the boulevard along the highrise hotel strip. They’re located just across the street from the Radisson now. It’s easy to find, just look for the frog.

Catchy advertising there. You’ll also find some unique seating as shown below.

This place fills up quickly. And now that they’re close to the hotels you can have a few and not worry about driving back to the hotel. Just be careful walking.

Enjoy your party in a responsible way. Bon dia from Aruba.

Amadeus Restaurant, Aruba

Amadeus Restaurant in Aruba is a new find for me. My wife and I joined friends there for a very nice dinner out last night. Upon entering, you’ll find an appealing bar with tables in the distance as well as a staircase leading to a balcony seating area. Here’s a view of the bar.

After having a glass of wine, we took to the stairs for a table with a view. The waiter promptly brought us menus, these in the form of framed cartas with a fair selection of dishes. Two of our party started with the escargot. These snails were served in a garlic mushroom sauce that looked like this:

This is not my thing, however, both diners reported them to be very tasty and a different way of serving this delicacy. I opted for the tried and true coconut shrimp, which arrive with greens on the side as can be seen here:

We enjoyed excellent conversation through these appetizers, not to mention a few glasses of wine and beer. Then came the entrees. Two of our group had fish, one was tilapia as seen below:

The other fish from the menu was a grouper, and here is a photo:

Both individuals found the dishes tasty and well prepared. As I like ribs done many ways, I gave the West Indies Ribs a try and here is what came to the table:

The sauce is more of a tomato-like concoction that was definitely not the same old same old. After this we polished off a slice of apple pie and some chocolate ice cream. Sorry, was too full to take more photos.

I have to say, Amadeus does a great job with both the food and the service. The prices are very (VERY) reasonable for the quality of the cuisine and attentive service. (I would go so far as to say that some other places in Aruba should send their staff to Amadeus for some re-training.) Thus, if you’re on the island and looking for a good meal slightly away from the usual areas, give Amadeus a try. It’s on the road to Paradera and easy to find.

Bon dia.

Cafe Capri, Aruba

Cafe Capri is located on the main road through Paradera on the island of Aruba, DWI. It’s a great little bar/restaurant where you can eat inside or outside. They describe their food as Venezuelan. Well, I stopped in with a pal, as I never pass up a chance to try some local chow.

We settled in at the bar around lunch time. The place was not crowded and service was quick and competent. We split a mixed grill platter. What a platter it was! Here’s a photo:

capribThere’s lettuce and tomatoes around the edges, french fries on the bottom, and grilled meats everywhere else. Toss some white cheese cubes in for good measure. The meats are: sausage, pork, beef, and chicken. This was almost a belly buster for the two of us who shared it. We soldiered on and cleaned the plate.

On your way to other parts of the island, such as the Casibari Rock formations or the natural bridge, you pass this place. Stop in on the way or the way back. Spanish skills are helpful.
