Rum Reef Aruba

Rum Reef Aruba is located where the old Esso club used to be between Baby and Rodgers Beaches, at the southern tip of the island.

You can’t miss the place as you drive down the lane toward the ocean. There’s a welcoming bar, covered seating, and friendly people to serve you the beverages and snacks of your choice.

JADS dive shop is adjacent to the place, too. Here you can launch diving adventure, get snorkle equipment, and check in with the professionals who know what they’re doing. On the other side of Rum Reef, you’ll find a gift shop featuring local crafts.

There’s also a little store for those forgotten essentials.

All this convenient to your visit to/from Baby Beach. Enjoy roaming about the island and don’t forget to check out these kinds of places. More often that not, you’ll have a great experience that you might have otherwise missed.

Another pool view…

I’ve posted several views from swimming pools here in Aruba. Our next one comes from the Divi All Inclusive in the low-rise hotel area. Take a look.

Not bad, eh? This is a great location to watch the inbound ships. They pass fairly close to the beach on their approach to Oranjestaad Harbor. Of course, you’re there with a cold beverage, maybe a good book and a snack, too. Either way, it’s hard to beat Aruba’s beachside pools.

Superbowl in Aruba

The Superbowl is a big deal in Aruba. All the hotels set up huge screens with chairs and buffets and plenty of buckets of beer. The photos didn’t come out the best, but you can see some examples here.

That’s Senor Frogs above and here is another one…

…which was from the Radisson. Here is the Hyatt…

…where you can see part of the buffet. The Hyatt had a screen on pilings standing above the water, which was rather impressive. Congrats to the winners and, well, the other team has to go back to practice.

Cathedral in the Sand, Aruba

Walking Palm Beach on a Sunday morning in Aruba, you may find some ambitious sculptors at work. Some photos have been posted before, but this one is probably the most impressive to date. This fellow created a beautiful cathedral using nothing but the sand from the beach.

When we arrived on the scene, he was putting the finishing touches on one of the wings. Let’s go in for a closer look.

This creation has all the majesty of the real thing. The fellow who made it has a very steady hand because those open spaces had to be carved out and one slip would have sent the wall tumbling. The sad part is the sea will wash it all away. Still, a beautiful presentation while it lasts.
