Druif Beach, Aruba

Druif Beach is a swath of sand located near the Tamarijn Resort in Aruba. It’s not the largest beach on the island, but it certainly is quite nice. Here’s a photo, looking north west.

beach_tamThere’s plenty of room there to stretch out and soak up the sun. This season there were few crowds here. It was slightly crowded a few Sunday afternoons, but nothing to complain about. Of course the adjacent Caribbean is balmy and inviting, one more reason Aruba is such a popular vacation destination.

Quickie Lickie, Aruba

The Quickie Lickie Laundromat in Aruba received some great publicity the other night. They were featured on the Jay Leno’s show. Here is a copy of the article form the Bon Dia newspaper.

quicklickartFortunately, I have my own washing machine and clothes line here at my shack on the island. No need to avail myself of the Quickie Lickie services. You have to admit, that is a great name for the business. Catchy, informative, perfect.

Tia Rosa Snack Truck

The Tia Rosa Snack Truck is located just south of the Pos Chikito circle in Aruba. It used to be in another location, but moved last year. Many people stop here for the pastiche and other local snacks. Here’s a photo of the joint.

tiarosaDon’t be fooled by this photo, which I took on Sunday when the place is closed. They open early, at 4AM for those of us who stay out all night in San Nicolaas, and do a steady trade through most of the day. You’ll frequently see a line here. But, it’s worth the wait. I pop in for an ice-cold Coca-Cola or something small when the mood strikes.

Sea Breeze Apartments, Aruba

Sea Breeze Apartments are located in the Pos Chikito area of the island, just a few blocks from Mangel Halto where there is some fantastic snorkeling. Years ago, I stayed here for several days. This week, I went back to visit an old friend who was staying there.

seabre1The Sea Breeze Apartments sit within a walled compound that ensconces the guest in quaint comfort. There are studio and one bedroom apartments for short and longer term stays. As seen below, there is a wood-fired BBQ, too.

seabre2There is also a large palapa hut where you can gather with your friends.

seabre3As you can see, this place is well-decorated and comfortable. It has a genuine feel as opposed to something that’s over-done. And don’t forget the pool, which is just big enough to cool off after lounging in the sun.

seabre4In the rear of the photo above, you can see one of the stand-alone apartments. The others are clustered around the central courtyard.

If you’re looking to get away from the high-rise hotel area of the island or for an experience different than renting a time share, try the Sea Breeze Apartments. You’ll be amidst a regular neighborhood, among other like-minded individuals, and generally enjoy a relaxing stay.
