Fred (Aruba)

Enter from stage left, Fred. He’s a new stray cat that showed up on my patio last week. He’s a bit skittish, but not afraid to pull a caper on Tux, the other stray cat, who’s been around for several years. Fred sneaks in while Tux is asleep on a perch in a corner. Fred proceeds to munch on Tux’s food than darts away. Here’s a pic of Fred, the caper cat:

Clearly, Fred is related to Tux: brother, cousin, both? Not sure, but he’s a cool cat and will be well-treated here.

Avalanche, Aruba

The white cat pictured below lives down the road from my house. I see him frequently on my way to and from my shack. He’s got a bit of a mean disposition, doesn’t take any crap from anyone or other animals. I saw him backing down a dog a few days ago. Hence the name, AVAL, as in avalanche. Here’s his pic:

Aval as in Avalanche, an Aruban cat.

More Aruban cat photos on the way. A word to the wise… if you see this guy sleeping on the step, don’t bother him. Bon dia.

Tux (still on patrol)

Tux, the little stray cat that hangs out by shack in Aruba, showed up mere minutes after my arrival on the island. This morning, I found him on the patio chair, awaiting his rations. Here he is:

Tux on the patio chair.

This guy does a darn good job keeping the small varmints away. Hence, he’s in my good graces and entitled to liberal feeding and protection from his nemesis, Ashburn, another cat that prowls the area but is quite mean. Tux and Ashburn got into a few scraps back in March. The fur was flying. Seems like Tux has held his territory this time, with no dents in his small hull. Plus, Tux is a handsome bugger, friendly, too.

I’m Sleeping!

One thing that many people neglect while traveling is a fair amount of rest. Of course you’re excited to be on a journey, inspired by all the new things you see, and don’t want to miss anything. But if you’re run down, it won’t be long before your travel experience deteriorates. Make time in your schedule for the occasional nap or even half an hour with your feet up and a glass of ice-cold Coca-Cola. While in Níjar, Spain, I spotted this cat, who had the right idea.

He found a place to tuck himself in and get some much-needed rest. That’s the idea. Afterward, I’m sure he was ready to prowl the rest of the day and night, doing those essential things that cats do.

Good rest can be hard to come by, especially in age of modern air travel. But don’t ruin a good trip by neglecting it. When you’re refreshed, you’ll enjoy yourself that much more.
