White Dog Cafe (redux)

Returned to the White Dog Cafe, in Wayne, PA. This was my second visit. Went for a late lunch after an airshow. For those of you not familiar with this place, the interior features quite a few paintings of dogs as you see here:

That was our table, the one on the left. Not a bad seat with a good people-watching angle on the bar. An interesting starter caught my eye on the menu: fried pickles. Check them out in the next photo.

There were exactly as described: fried pickles. What was I expecting? Fried pickles. Crunchy batter and pickle underneath, which was quite pleasant, spiced up with the dipping sauce you see on the side. A nice feature this was, adding some variety to my tried an true burger you see next:

Yes, another pickle, this one just out of the barrel. The burger is very good, too. I only wish the fries were a little more crispy. Still, a great meal with fine service at the White Dog Cafe, a place I keep on the list for its fresh offerings and fun people-watching scene.

Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant

Verna’s Flight Line Restaurant has been on my list of places to check out for a long time. It’s located at the Millville, NJ airport, which is a place with tons of history, especially relating to the Second World War and P47 Thunderbolts. Of course, I’m a fan of history, airplanes, and good diners. Hence, Verna’s fits all three bills.

It’s a small place with a short counter and some tables among photos and airplane memorabilia.

Flyers and non-flyers will be at home here. So what about the food? This is a diner (in my humble opinion) so you can expect the usual burgers, club sandwiches, and specials. I went with the club sandwich and a side of fries. Let me say, they were both delicious, perfectly prepared, and served with a smile.

There was another quarter of the sandwich, but I ate it before remembering to take the photo. Anyway, it was all good and reasonably priced, not to mention served within sight of the runway. Can’t ask for more than that.

All the info you need is right there in the photo above. Call before you go as they do close for certain holidays and special events. Enjoy the flight and the meals!

Airline Food (a nice meal!)

Enjoyed a very nice meal during a flight from MIA to PHL yesterday. What I liked most was the simplicity, which is a requirement (in my humble opinion) if your’e going to serve a meal from a closet, as most airline galleys are. This was courtesy of American Airlines, my preferred carrier.

The chicken wrap was tasty with a mustard-type dressing that kept things moist. The couscous was rather interesting and very difficult for me to describe. Suffice it to say, it was a nice touch. Portions are small but are probably the size we should all eat instead of the grand feasts. I’d like to give a thumbs-up to American Airlines for this combination. It’s a big improvement over some of the other meals I’ve had.

Coffee 4U, Aruba

On L.G. Smith Blvd, the main drag connecting Oranjestaad to the hotel area in Aruba, you’ll find Coffee4U.

This is a great place for a quick jolt, a pastry, or some gelato as seen below.

That stuff is pure kryptonite and mighty tasty. Especially if you double down and go with something like a cappuccino as seen next.

Plus, the airco in this joint will cool you down. Stop in and check it out while roaming the island or looking for a place to meet. It’s all good.
