Continuing in the Vatican Museum, here is a look at a room painted by Raphael.
Each wall contains a huge mural.
For models in the following work, he used many of the luminaries of his time.
Looking closer, perhaps you’ll recognize Leonardo and Michaelangelo.
Incredible stuff, among the great works humanity has produced in all of history.
In a previous post, I put up the video from inside the Sistine Chapel. Now, I add a few still photos taken with my Nikon 1 AW and that beautiful wide angle lens. The first is Michaelangelo’s apocalypse which is behind the altar:

I was fortunate to have the early morning “Waking the Vatican” tour when photos were permitted. It was worth arriving on-site at 5:45 AM. I’d do it again and pay the price to view this magnificent art work. Coming soon: A post from inside St. Peter’s.
As part of the “Waking the Vatican” tour, one can enjoy the Sistine Chapel with a few dozen other visitors. This is a marvelous experience, seeing the work of Michaelangelo in an almost private moment. As large as the chapel is, it does feel private. Here’s a video showing the chapel.
Amazing. Seriously. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend this experience. Do your homework about the art and history of the place in order to get the most out of it. Linger as long as possible.
Not the largest religious building in Toledo Spain, the Church of Cristo de la Luz, was originally built in the year 999. That’s right, more than a 1,000 years ago.
The facade features the interesting “moorish” architecture.
Inside, you’ll find the remains of some frescos:

This building is definitely worth a stop while in Toledo as it shows the continuity from one culture to another as it evolved in this area. Do a little homework before you go and you’ll discover the details more easily.
