Driving to Baby Beach, Aruba

Some visitors to Aruba find it a challenge to drive to the southeast tip of the island where Baby Beach is located. The street signs are not exactly clear in Aruba, but the driving is not difficult, just a little slow here and there. Well, if you leave the hotel area and take the main highway (1A) past the airport, all the way to the edge of San Nicolaas, you’re 3/4’s of the way to Baby Beach. From there, just follow this video.

That was easy enough. Baby Beach is a great place for a dip and bit of snorkeling, too. You can hang out here then head into San Nicolaas for a few drinks and a snack. I’ll have a video showing the drive into town very soon.

Bon dia.

Flying S37 to KOQN

Today was a short flight in the Cessna 172. Repositioning the plane from the mechanic’s shop at Smoketown Airport (S37) to its base at Brandywine (KOQN). Visibility wasn’t the greatest, about 3 miles, and as the sun came up, I expected it to get better. Well, it didn’t. No worries. All went well as you’ll see here.

Another safe flight in the log book. These short hops keep things interesting, giving the opportunity to practice things like short field takeoffs. It’s always good to stay fresh on the maneuvers. Don’t forget the checklist!

Atlantic City Boardwalk

The Atlantic City Boardwalk was the place to be today. Bright sunshine, cool temps, and lots of blue sky overhead. There was a charity walk going on, but the boardwalk was plenty wide for everyone. I stayed out of the casinos and took in the fresh air and fun. Here’s a timelapse video showing a good part of the walk from the Taj Mahal down to Bally’s. Don’t miss the pizza and sausage at the shop in the middle of the tape.

The only thing that could have made this day better was a flight in a small airplane. That’s on for tomorrow. By the way, the video you watched was made from still images captured by the little GoPro camera I reviewed a few days ago.

GoPro Video Review

The GoPro video camera has proved to be an excellent device for recording action footage. I bought it with relatively low expectations, but it has done a great job. Here’s my video review:

If you decide to use the GoPro to record your adventures, be sure to get the extra mounts. You’ll want to move it around on the vehicle, helmet, or craft of your choice and those adapters will come in handy. Other than that, you’re good to go.
