Hyatt Sunday Brunch, video

The Hyatt Hotel in Aruba serves a fantastic Sunday brunch. I posted photos before. This time, I’ve made a short video. I left out the breakfast foods, but rest assured, there is every type of breakfast item on offer. Take a look at the video.

Also not shown in the video are the excellent waiters who make this brunch as good as it is. They’re on top of everything. The mimosas stay full, the coffee fresh, the soiled plates disappear as if by magic. Plus, they’re friendly without being officious and congenial without disturbing your meal. Over the years I’ve gotten to know several of the staff. It’s always a pleasure seeing them.

Matthew’s Restaurant, Aruba (video)

Matthew’s Restaurant is located at the Casa del Mar complex in the low-rise hotel area of Aruba. It fronts the beach and you can hear the ocean lapping the shore while you eat. We stopped there for lunch yesterday, as both my wife and I had a hankering for a cheeseburger. Well, we chose the right place. Check out this video for proof.

Service here is friendly and attentive. The prices are a little high until you consider you are beachside and on an island in the Caribbean. The menu has many more items, so give it a try for more than a cheeseburger. They also serve dinner, which I’m sure is quite nice given the setting. It’s places like this that make Aruba a sure bet for travelers from all over the world.

Bon dia!

Old Man and The Sea Restaurant (video)

The Old Man and The Sea Restaurant opened in the summer of 2008. It has quickly become a favorite among Aruba’s visitors as well as the locals. I posted some photos of the restaurant several months ago. Now, I’d like to share this video, which gives a better impression of the space.

You can see that the tables are well-spaced for a romantic dining experience at the edge of the Caribbean Sea. The food here is inventive and quite good. I’ll be enjoying another supper here soon, so check back for more photo and videos.

Many scenes from my novel, An Island Away, take place in actual locations that can be seen in Aruba. The Old Man and The Sea restaurant has found its way into the sequel, Under A Blue Flag. A pair of characters go there for a dinner one night only to have it interrupted by a fortuitous incident.

Bon dia from Aruba!

Bistro Juliana, Philadelphia

Bistro Juliana, located on the edge of a neighborhood known as Fishtown, serves a fantastic lunch. The restaurant is owned by people who have another establishment near the center of Philadelphia.

As you can see from the street signs, this place is locate at the corner of Cumberland and Salmon Streets. There is parking across the street. What about the food? Well, the menu is Italian. For lunch I had the homemade ravioli with veal sausage. Excellent. And, the price was a mere $8.50. Some fast food meals cost nearly that much and are nothing compared to a nice sit down lunch here.

When in Philadelphia and in need for a pleasant and affordable, high-quality lunch, give this place a try. You won’t be disappointed. Spanish is also spoken, which helps a bloke like me work on his multi-lingual skills.
