A Trolley Coming to Aruba

For the past several months, the infrastructure for a trolley system has been under construction in Aruba. Here are some recent photos. The first showing the Y junction behind the Renaissance Mall.

The next photo shows the tracks down the center of the shopping street:

Eventually the line will connect over to the cruise ship terminal. This will give passengers a new option for getting to the various shopping and dining areas around Oranjestaad. Bon dia.

Cigar Emporium, Aruba

The Cigar Emporium is located in the Renaissance Mall in the heart of Oranjestaad, Aruba. Stopping in here for cigars, accessories, or even a cappuccino can be a enjoyable time. I was there recently and made this little video to show you the place.

As that video shows, a wide selection of cigars can be purchased from the humidor where they’re kept in top condition. On Friday’s they have a great happy hour. Various rums can be tasted while you enjoy that cigar and conversation with friends and new acquaintances. Bon dia.

Scuba in Aruba

There are a number of great places to scuba dive in Aruba. Yesterday, I sat down with my friend, Kent, for a talk about his underwater adventures on the island. He was generous enough to lend me some of his footage from the deep blue sea that is part of the interview. You’ll also meet Stuart and Kat, both of whom enjoy the sport to the max, including night dives. Check out the tape:

That was some amazing stuff, especially the night footage and the airplane. How about that turtle, too? If you like scuba diving, you’ll enjoy yourself here in Aruba. Head to the island and give it a try. I plan on assembling some more video of Kent and Stuart diving soon, including more of that airplane site. Bon dia.

Tony and Jezebel, Aruba

So, behind my shack in Aruba, I have bit of land where some chickens like to linger. I started feeding them last year. Lo and behold, more chickens. Here’s a shot of Tony and his main hen, Jezebel.

Tony and Jezebel, my Aruba chickens.

Tony is one tough character. He attacks any other rooster that comes around and isn’t afraid to stand up to the smaller stray cats. That’s a bit risky because when the food gets short, those cats may turn on him. Either way, these chickens are absolutely hilarious as they go about their day. If you know where to find it, entertainment is cheap on this island. Jezebel had a couple of peeps recently. We’ll have to wait and see how many make it. To date, the flock numbers 4 hens (Jezebel plus Daisy, Maisy, and Crazie) and Tony, plus a few itinerant roosters named Bill and Al. Peeps don’t get a name until they grow up. Stand by for updates in the fall when next we check the flock.
