Waking a Beast, video
Before a steam engine can go out on the rails, there’s plenty of work to be done. As you see in the following video, the crew of Locomotive No. 40 does the job well. (Check it out in 1080 full screen if your internet connection is capable.)
The tools are heavy, the job is dirty, the temperatures alternate from boiling to freezing, but it’s a labor of love keeping steam trains running. Thanks to the good folks like the people you saw in the video, the rest of us get to enjoy the ride and the majesty of these machines. Take your family and see all there is along the rails.
DiNic’s Roast Pork, video
Located in Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market, Tommy DiNic’s roast pork sandwich was voted the best sandwich in the USA by none other than Alan Richman. I decided to try it for myself. Here’s the video:
That’s a darn good sandwich. Every element is perfectly cooked. Flavor pops from the first bite to the last. There is a long line, too, proving it’s not just me but a lot of people who think DiNic’s does a fine job. There’s also roast beef and beef brisket, both of which I need to go back and try. Apples and Pumpkins, video
Today, I visited the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market and learned quite a bit about apples and pumpkins. It is the season for these two, and the market was chock full of both. Here’s the video, which includes two interviews.
By the way, the building in which the PWPM operates is big enough to contain the Empire State Building (on its side). And, they transact more than a billion dollars worth of business every year. As long as you’re buying a case, you can buy there. So, if you have a big event planned, don’t hesitate to check it out for great prices and the best selection.
