ESV Study Version, video discussion

The English Standard Version Study Bible has proved to be an invaluable resource for me as I do research for a novel I’ve been working on for nearly two years. Of course, it contains the text of the Bible, but it also features an introduction to each book by a scholar who provides additional contextual insight. Then there are the diagrams, maps, and illustrations, as well as glossaries and cross reference indices. Here’s my video discussion:

If you’re interested in a deeper look at the Bible, I can highly recommend this version. And don’t forget, it comes with the key to access the content on the internet, which makes it that much easier. All in all, a useful study tool.

The Lingo Guide, video review

The Lingo Guide for Builders is a concise English to Spanish and Spanish to English translation book. It’s specific to the building trades so you don’t have to wade through an entire dictionary to find the word for fusebox. This slim volume came in handy during the renovations of my shack in Aruba. Here’s the video review:

If you have Spanish-speakers on your crew or job-site, this book will be a huge help. Get two and get the job done!

Dushi Bagels and More! video

Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers share the same operation in front of the Playa Linda along Aruba’s high-rise hotel area. For breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they offer you plenty of options, from a sesame bagel with cream cheese to a bacon cheeseburger to a chicken dinner. Here’s the video with plenty of details.

Those prices are very reasonable, which means you won’t break the bank when munching on your favorites. Dushi Bagels and Burgers & Burgers are a great alternative for a casual meal so give them a try if you’re looking for something easy. Bon dia.

RODE Videomic, video review

Creating videos for this blog is tons of fun. However, it does require some specialized equipment. It doesn’t have to be super expensive, just designed for the job at hand. The RODE Videomic is the perfect example. It is a directional microphone, which means that it records sound from a specific area. Here’s my video review of the RODE Videomic, which contains an on-location shot from Aruba, providing a good demonstration of the piece in action.

Given the wind and water noise at the shoreline, I was impressed with the RODE Videomic’s capability. My voice was clearly heard and the people behind the camera could not be heard at all, which is what this microphone is designed to do, record the sound from straight ahead. For the price point, RODE has done a great job. Thanks!
