American Airlines Flight 56 (meals)

Continuing my journey that began with the meals you saw in the previous post, I enjoyed several more meals above 30,000 feet. Thanks to frequent flier miles, I was able to sit up front aboard American Airlines Flight 56, where the seating was spacious and service outstanding. So, let’s get on with those meals.

First came the champagne and warm nuts as you see in the next photo:

As you can see, I already polished off those mixed nuts. Next came more champagne with a little starter that was very, very good.

Then came an appetizer of Thai chicken with fruit that was extremely tasty as well as a flavorful corn chowder. Check it out in the photo below:

Of course it is important to have your greens. Hence, a fresh salad with the balsamic vinegar dressing you see here:

And finally the entree:

This was a grilled chicken with asparagus and tomatoes with a sort of potato pancake on the side. All great. After eating all this, I had no room for dessert. However, a bit later in this flight, there was a nice spread of snacks put out. Here it is:

All kinds of stuff there: Fresh fruit, crackers, cheese, sweets, much of which I enjoyed before going to sleep for the rest of the flight. I can’t say enough good things about the service aboard this flight. Cabin staff and crew did a wonderful job of making sure everyone was comfortable and enjoying the flight. Thanks again, American Airlines.

Two Meals in Flight

Truth be told, I’ve had some decent in-flight meals these days.  Today, aboard American Airlines, these were the offerings: Grilled chicken with rice and salad as you see in the first photo here:

There was also a chilled beef  with udon noodle salad that I found particularly tasty above 35,000 feet. Check out the photo next:

Service was great on this flight. Friendly people, smooth air, and a nice landing. More than that, you simply can not have. Enjoy every meal and flight.

Love at first sight? (Aruba c. 2002?)

As mentioned in the previous post, I was going through my photo archives. I stumbled onto this one, an absolute favorite taken with my old Nikon F3. The location is Charlie’s Bar, San Nicolaas, Aruba. I remember turning from my drink at the bar and seeing this little girl look at Chavez the Cat and Chavez looking at her. Here it is (a photo of a photo):

That is a photo of a print, which actually gives it a more archival feel, like a photo from many, many years ago. I’m fairly certain that I took this in 2002. I was using film back then, film by the mile actually. There’s boundless emotion in this little scene. I only wish I could find the negative and make more prints.

Photo Archive of 9/11 Attack (May 2014)

With the opening of the 9/11 Museum at the former World Trade Center site in New York City, I was compelled to dig into the photo archives. I departed New York Harbor aboard a ship on Sunday, 9 September 2011 and took a number of photos of the Manhattan Skyline, including the World Trade Center itself, not to mention several tugboats working the Hudson River. Of course, two days later, disaster struck. And one week later, I drove to the site for a first-hand look, toting my Hasselblad, Nikon, and plenty of gear. It was a long walk down to the site and worth every drop of sweat. One of the photos I took was of a newsstand that had been closed since 11 September. Inside, it was like a time capsule of the news of the day. Here’s a look at the sheet of film of those images:

The one labeled “#6” is the one I mentioned avow. Here’s a closer look:

There you see the Daily News with it’s screaming headline.  You can also see the reflection of my leg and foot in the glass. It was quite a site to see that day, one I will never forget. I’m grateful to have my own images, ones that I will keep forever.
