Moomba’s New Roof, Aruba

Moomba Beach Bar suffered a catastrophic failure of their giant palapa hut. The roof came crashing down. According to newspaper reports, no one was seriously injured. They’re back in business now. This time they have a tubular frame with fabric overhead. Take a look:

The breeze has settled a bit lately. No doubt more is on the way  because Aruba is the windy island. Every day is a bad hair day. At the same time, the sun shines, the water is warm, and it’s hard to find nicer beaches, most of which have bars like this only a few steps away.

Bon dia!

Moomba Beach Bar, Aruba

Moomba Beach Bar is located along Aruba’s famous Palm Beach. It’s on the northwest end, past the Holiday Inn.

It’s a giant, open-air palapa hut set on boards just above the sand. You have a great view out over the beach at the boats floating in the clear Caribbean sea. The drinks are cold, the staff friendly, and there are plenty of revelers to join in the fun. They got creative with one of their lights as you can see here:

That’s an interesting use of empty beer bottles. As far as I know, if you ring the bell, you bought a round for everyone at the bar, so be careful with that.

Either way, it’s a pleasant retreat from the sun and sand for a bit of refreshment and conversation. Better yet, you can walk to many of the hotels in just a few minutes. As always, enjoy your imbibing responsibly.

Bon dia.

Beach and Pool Bars, Aruba

With its handsome beaches and string of hotels that front them, it’s no surprise there are a number of bars for the visitor to enjoy in Aruba. You’ll find all kinds of themes. Here’s a little video that shows some of them that can be found along Palm Beach, near the high-rise hotels.

There are more beaches and more bars. If you want to make a journey of your drinking here, it will be a long one.

White Hill Bar, Aruba, DWI

The White Hill Bar is located above San Nicolaas, along a country road where I normally ride my bicycle. It’s a tiny joint, attached to a house, and staffed by a single old chap who listens to the radio at full volume.

whitehillaThis place is different from your average rum shop in that it doesn’t have a busy trade. It’s mostly just a few guys talking early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The selection of beverages is small, too, a few different soft drinks, a few types of beer. Pastechi are on sale in the morning, but I’m not a fan of those. Either way, when I pass by on my bike around 7am it’s a relief to pop in for a cold bottle of water or juice. Thus, if you’re cruising about the island and want to meet some local people, don’t hesitate to give a place like this a try.

Bon dia from Aruba.
