Check out my new Aruban lawnmower. Just showed up this morning. Lucky for me, too, because the grass (weeds) are getting a bit tall. Check it out right here:
As you can see, more than one showed up. In fact a whole gaggle of them did.
This gang munched away to their hearts’ content. Now, if I could only teach them how to paint, I’d be all finished up here at my shack.

The Windy Side of Aruba, that is the eastern side, can be a challenge for man and machine. There is a road that stretches from San Nicolaas along the shore to the Arikok National Park and then into San Fuego. I see lots of small cars making this trek, much to their peril. Sure, you can make it. You can also get stranded if you’re not careful. Thankfully, that doesn’t happen very often.
I like to ride my bicycle from Savaneta over to the point where I took this photo. The route takes me past the location of the new windmills and several other interesting sites. There is very little traffic, which makes for safer riding, too. The landscape on the windy side can be dramatic, with cliffs, crashing surf, herds of wild goats, and the occasional ship far off at sea. If you take this drive, use caution, take water and a cellphone, and don’t go alone.

Urataka is a sparsely populated area located close to the geographic center of Aruba. Here you will find a good place to stop for pizza and an ice-cold drink. Take a look.
Painted those colors, it’s hard to miss. I should also mention that this place hosts a mix of visitors going to and from the Arikok National Park as well as a local people who live in the area. So you’re sure to have a more diverse experience than other places.
Couldn’t pass up the chance to photograph the Coca-Cola sign. Anyway, since the sign higher up talks about the best pizza, I decided to give it a try. I ordered the “meat lovers” version and here is what it looked like.
This was the 14″ medium which is more than enough for two people. The crust was excellent by the way and the only thing this pizza needed was a little more sauce. Still, it was very good and I highly recommend it if you’re on the island and need a pizza fix. While waiting for the meal, I checked out the scenery and discovered this sign on the wall:
No one from the club was around at the time of my visit, probably because I was there on Sunday and these are the Terrible Tuesday Riders. There are a number of motorcycle clubs on Aruba these days. Sometimes you’ll see as many as one hundred of them touring around together or parked at a place like this.

Aruba hosts more than one million visitors every year. Lately, the Tourism Authority has targeted their marketing efforts in various European cities. As a result, there are charter flights from countries such as Germany, England, and Italy. I’ve noticed a large number of Italians staying at the Holiday Inn and the hotel set up a special help desk with Italian-speaking staff. Take a look at the signs:
Aruba is already known for having several languages and it seems they’ll be adding Italian to the list. There was also a company from Italy hosting a seminar about their products as you can see from the next sign.
I wish I could have ducked into this seminar to see what was happening, but I had other obligations. As you can see from the next sign, Italian visitors are enjoying all the zany fun to be had on this desert island, including the Kookoo Kunuku booze bus ride, the beach, and an evening of quality music at the club Mr. Jazz.

Wherever you’re from, you’ll find plenty of enjoyment here in Aruba. There’s always the beautiful beaches, the warm sun, and the cool Caribbean Sea. Then there are the great restaurants, exciting music venues, and fantastic shopping. And if you’re the adventuresome type, you can head out to the local joints where I like to chat and eat, meet new people and relax. It’s hard to go wrong here.
