Snikkers (not Snickers)

Snikkers is a cat who loiters at Buffam’s Tropical Haven, a bed and breakfast here in Aruba.

Snikkers ambled in one day and more or less comes and goes as she pleases. Of course, she’s a friendly calico who likes you to give her plenty of attention. Then, after a quick nap, she bolts after a lizard or some other unfortunate creature.

Be kind to animals, it’s one of the keys to Heaven.

Tux(er)

Tuxer is a stray cat that shows up here at my shack in Aruba from time to time. He’s a regular visitor on an irregular schedule. He likes to take a nap on my patio, a drink from the water I put out for him, and an occasional snack, too. From the photo below, you can see how he got his name.

His black and white coat is just like a tuxedo. Those white shoes would be a big hit at a wedding celebration near you.

I feature cats in all my novels. For An Island Away, it was Screwball. In Bonk’s Bar, it was Larry. And in Universal Coverage, there is one named Marvin. I haven’t settled on the name for the cat in the new book I’m working on. But it’ll come. Maybe it will be Tuxer.

Grumpy and Fade

Grumpy and Fade are two more cats that live in my neighborhood on the island of Aruba. Grumpy is the little black cat in the photo below. He’s always making trouble with his pal, Fade, whose colors enable him to blend in with the hues of the walls in the area. Take a look.

fadegrouchJust one look at Grumpy and you can see he’s trouble. At the same time, I’ve seen these two napping in the afternoon, minding their own business. You have to feel sorry for any small creature in their theater of operations. These two can be vicious when it comes to small birds, lizards, and such. Of course, they’re cats: lovable one minute, killers the next.

Mr. Hammer

Mr. Hammer is another Aruba cat I see from time to time. He’s getting a little grumpy in his old age. Just take a look at his photo here.

cathammerThat look on his face tells us all we need to know. Mr. Hammer does not like to be disturbed, and who can blame him? He’s got the run of the Savaneta neighborhood. There’s plenty of places for him to stretch out in the sun. Lots of lizards and other small creatures to chase (and dare I say, feast upon?). Plus, he lives on the other side of the wall, in a place all his own. He won’t let you get close without a hiss or growl, so it’s best to leave him to his own devices and move on. I think he’s forgotten that he lives on One Happy Island.

Anyway, live and let live I always say.
