Amuse Bistro, Aruba

Amuse Bistro in Aruba serves up inspired food as I discovered last night. So, let’s get right to it because there’s a lot of eye-candy here for you foodies. We sat down with a couple of generously-poured glasses of wine and along comes a little treat from the chef, a shot glass size sample of the potato soup. This was a great little palette teaser. Perusing the menu (which is shown at the end of this post) you’ll see there are many choices here. Well, we started with escargots as seen below:

Those little buggers were tasty and backed up by neatly sliced bread in an inventive way. There was also a chicken salad topped by a slice of crispy pancetta as seen in the next photo:

And then there was this inventive dish: Goat cheese with red bell pepper atop a puff pastry with sugared black olives. Check it out.

Yeah, that’s a chef who knows what he’s doing. Right? Of course! Now, let’s move on to the main course. I decided to go with appetizer size portions for the main course to save room for dessert. Here we go with a roast pork loin cooked EXACTLY right as you see here:

When I say that was cooked exactly right, I mean that you could cut it with a fork and each bite was full of flavor. Speaking of flavor, take a look at the shrimp and lobster linguine in the next picture:

That was a nice combination as well. Moving along you see the scallops plated beautifully:

Another work of culinary art there, eh? Absolutely. At last we get to dessert, which was a brownie with red wine ice-cream. Here you go:

All in all, a very fine meal, served by a staff that is highly professional. In fact, the staff was as much a pleasure as the food. They described the dishes, offered suggestions, and kept things moving at the perfect pace. Here I post the menu so you can see the very fair prices and options currently offered.

Perhaps what I liked most about this (and there is A LOT to like) was the option to have appetizer size portions for entrees. These days I like to eat a variety of dishes and by having smaller portions I was able to make it through to dessert. In fact, next time I go to Amuse, which will be soon, I’m thinking about ordering several different appetizer to start and several more for the main courses and sharing them across the table like a family-style meal. There are lots of choices here and every one is good. Why hold back? Bon dia.

Fusion, Aruba

No, they’re not making nuclear power in Aruba (yet). However, there is a new restaurant called Fusion. It’s located in the recently remodeled/expanded mall area along side the Alhambra Casino. It has a lounge-type feel, complete with piano player, mood lighting, and a sort of tapas menu. Here’s a look at the scene:

The bar at Fusion, Aruba.

Plenty of clever lighting there on the racks of top-shelf booze. Note the piano set into the bar. You can sit right there if you like. In the interest of good cheer, we began the evening with a glass of bubbly as you can see here.

That was a great way to kick things off. In the interest of snacking, we went with a cured meats plate backed by an assortment of cheese. Here are the orders side by side.

Tasty and appropriate portions for two, perhaps three, because they are a bit heavy. Since this was strictly a snack mission, we didn’t enjoy any other plates, which is a good reason to return soon. Here’s a look at the menu board to see the many items on offer.

Fusion is a great addition to the low-rise area of Aruba. People at Casa del Mar, Costa Linda, Bucuti, and Manchebo can simply stroll down for a bite, enjoy the music, and have a fine time. Bon dia.

White Modern Cuisine, Aruba, video visit

There have been several previous posts about White Modern Cuisine, perhaps the best restaurant here in Aruba. Now, we’re going to make a video visit, complete with shots of the kitchen staff in action. So, roll the video:

This is serious food, but with no pretension. You can relax, have a great drink, and truly enjoy the food. Next time you’re in Aruba, give this place a try. It’s well worth it.

Wonton Soup, interpreted in Aruba

A couple of posts ago, I showed the menu for White Modern Cuisine, a restaurant here in Aruba that (in my humble opinion) is about the best on the island. There I was a couple of nights ago, having a few drinks and got a hankering for a snack, something that only happens 9.34 times out of ten. Gazing at the menu, I spotted the wonton soup, thinking… hmmmmmm. Well, it was worth the try and below you’ll see why. It comes in two parts. First:

Part 1 of White Modern Cuisine wonton soup.

Those wontons above are crispy and packed with flavor. The other ingredients are as fresh as you can get. Then there is Part 2, delivered by the waiter as you see here.

White Modern Cuisines, wonton soup, Part 2.

That’s right, he pours the broth over the top while you watch. Hot, fresh, tasty. The broth is subtle, adding the kind of reliable base that only makes the other individual components stand out more. And those tiny wontons released flavor with every chew. Of course, you can see the crispy carrot and chives which blended in perfectly. Yeah, I like this place. If all goes well, I’ll have a video soon. Bon dia. (And please, eat SLOWLY. Enjoy your food.)
