Here’s another photo from the dredging of the back basin at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This time, you see the survey boat checking the depth.

There was also some moorings built during this project. I hope to get some more photos soon. Stay tuned.

Cape May Harbor

Cape May, NJ, USA has a beautiful harbor. If you like to watch the boats, there are several vantage points. Here’s a look at the commercial fishing fleet rafted at the dock.

Be sure to check out the sport fisherman, the pleasure craft, and even the paddle boards and kayaks. There’s all types of vessels about. And then, just a short walk away, you’ll find plenty of establishments to enjoy a meal and beverages. Take your time. No hurry.

Carrier bow…

Here’s another look at that aircraft carrier mothballed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This time, it’s a look directly at the bow.DSC_1228

There’s plenty of air draft on such a ship, which means some clever engineering to keep it right side up. It’s always impressive to see such a massive structure up close. I’d like to see one moving at speed some day.

SS United States (night)

The SS United States remains in Philadelphia at this time. Rumor has it, the ship will be moved into a graving dock for an inspection. Some years ago, I was testing a camera at night and took this footage.

The ship had ghost-like feel that night. In any case, she retains the record for fastest transatlantic voyage. It will be interesting to see if she gets a new life. Stay tuned!
