Peñafiel Castle, Spain, quick look

Here’s just a few snapshots from Peñafiel Castle. I had been there several years ago, took the door, and checked out the wine museum. All very interesting. Here’s a look at the main gate:

And just for fun, here’s a view over the nearby countryside.

Fields and vineyards for as far as the eye can see. It really is beautiful. Then again, most all of Spain is. Take your time to enjoy it all.

Asador Don Jose, Peñafiel, Spain

Spain maintains its food traditions to an extremely high level. This is one of things I enjoy about visiting Spain, the consistent traditions. Well, at Asador Don Jose, you’ll find some fantastic lechazo, roast lamb that is, prepared exactly right.

This is a simple place, with friendly owners who are truly pleased to have you. I was walking this area when I noticed two local couples chatting, waiting for the restaurant to open. Surely, that’s a good sign. Inside, you’ll find a cosy dining room:

And the aroma coming from the nearby kitchen will set your appetite up for the tasty delights. Sorry, I didn’t catch a photo of the food because I was enjoying the wine seen below:

Enjoyed a great meal that filled me up for the rest of the day. Seriously, this is something to enjoy with a group. Best to walk up to the castle afterward to burn it off.

Castilla Termal Valbuena, Spain, Room

The previous post showed the Castilla Termal Valbuena’s pools and common areas. Now, we’ll take a look at one of the rooms. This was a duplex affair, with a lower area fitted with desk, mini bar, and couch that you see in the photo below:

DSC_2848The staircase to the right leads up to the bedroom or sleeping loft as it might be called which feature a large bed, closet space, and the bathroom:

IMG_1819The bathroom was quite modern as the next photo shows:

Peñafiel Castle, Spain

If you like your medieval castles intact, then Peñafiel has much to offer. Only guided tours are permitted, but no worries as you’ll see plenty. There’s also a wine museum built into the southern portion of the castle. It’s worth your time. The gift shop has a fine selection of hand blown glassware that is the epitome of class and style. So, let’s have a look at this fortress. Here’s the video:

Impressive, no? I’ll say. It’s hard to imagine someone taking a chance attacking castles like this. There are so may angles for the defenders to launch everything from stones to arrows to boiling oil. Nasty. Climbing those stairs was good exercise, too. There are a few more castle videos and photos essays to come. Stay tuned.
