Tabla Ibérica

The Tabla Ibérica represents a classic dish from Spain. It features meats and cheeses that are all delicious on their own. Together, they’re a culinary delight. Here’s an example I enjoyed recently:

Wow, what a feed! Fortunately, this was shared with other people as part of a great meal. If there’s one thing the Spanish have mastered, it is cured meats. Enjoy this with a favorite wine and you’re good to go. Tan bueno!

Sharpening Knives, Spain

While in Oviedo, Spain, I spotted this fellow sharpening knives outside a popular restaurant.

His bicycle powered grinding wheel was quite fascinating, providing both transportation and the means to conduct his business. While I watched, a waiter took one of the knives in to the chef and then returned to request more work on it. Low-tech for sure, yet very functional. Impressive in its utility and economy. Such is life in Spain. Always interesting.

Basque Beach, Spain

In the Basque region of Spain, you’ll find a number of beaches, including this one:

DSC_2587.JPGThe water is a bit chilly compared to the Caribbean. Still, there are people who enjoy the sea, in particular surfing. At some of these beaches, capable life guards keep an eye on things:

DSC_2590.JPGOf course, there is great food just on the other side of the promenade. Enjoy the swim responsibly and carefully.

Santa Cueva de Covadonga, Spain

Tucked into a hillside deep in the Asturian countryside, you’ll find the Santa Cueva de Covadonga.

DSC_2701A staircase leads to the chapel and it is worth the climb.

DSC_2686The photo above gives some perspective to the terrain here, which is quite mountainous. Pulling back a little, you can see the altar to the right of the chapel.

DSC_2688This is a place of pilgrimage for many believers. It was impressive to see their devotion and respect.
