Episcopal Palace, Gaudí, Astorga

Also in Astorga, Spain, the Episcopal Palace designed by Gaudí, welcomes visitors. This is a fascinating building that exhibits some of Gaudí’s trademarks yet in a more subtle way.

Creative minds give us spectacular things. No doubt about it.

Casa de Tepa, Astorga, Spain

Casa de Tepa is the type of unique accommodation that I enjoy most. It has the unique taste and style of the owners as well as plenty of history. Tucked behind a wall, you’ll find this place complete with a lovely courtyard which is perfect for relaxing after a long day of business or touring.

As for rooms, there are plenty to choose from. Here’s a large one in which I stayed.

Tabla Ibérica

The Tabla Ibérica represents a classic dish from Spain. It features meats and cheeses that are all delicious on their own. Together, they’re a culinary delight. Here’s an example I enjoyed recently:

Wow, what a feed! Fortunately, this was shared with other people as part of a great meal. If there’s one thing the Spanish have mastered, it is cured meats. Enjoy this with a favorite wine and you’re good to go. Tan bueno!

Sharpening Knives, Spain

While in Oviedo, Spain, I spotted this fellow sharpening knives outside a popular restaurant.

His bicycle powered grinding wheel was quite fascinating, providing both transportation and the means to conduct his business. While I watched, a waiter took one of the knives in to the chef and then returned to request more work on it. Low-tech for sure, yet very functional. Impressive in its utility and economy. Such is life in Spain. Always interesting.
