Railroad Sunset (Hasselblad, Ektachrome)

Way back in 2002, I was taking photographs with a marvelous Hasselblad 202FA equipped with an equally impressive Zeiss lens. I got lucky late one afternoon when this scene evolved in a rail yard at sunset:

Ektachrom V100S captured the moment in stunning color, exactly as it was. There is no “photoshop” work done on this photo; it was simply scanned from the original slide. I miss that Ektachrome and the camera. Sometimes the results astounded me.

Steady as she goes…

Here’s a photo I happened upon a few nights ago. Was driving along the coast of Savaneta, Aruba, DWI and spotted a tugboat steaming south as the sun set.

Always a good idea to keep a camera handy. This was my Nikon 1 AW, a great little unit that does a good job without much work on the users part. And, with all the media we have today, you can share instantly and enjoy.

Way up there…

One of the things I enjoy most about flying (big plane or small) is the view that you can’t have from terra firma. For example, yesterday I was aboard a commercial airliner, flying above the clouds as the sunset. Here’s what it looked like.

Dusk from 35,000 feet.

Dusk from 35,000 feet.

The floor of clouds was like a swell on the ocean. The sunset was a perfect gradient of all rainbow. Hard to beat that. Thanks to American Airlines for another safe, on time journey, as well as a pair of excellent landings. I’m always impressed at how well the professionals can handle those airplanes.

Driving to Mangel Halto, Aruba, video

Mangel Halto is a great place to go snorkeling. If you remember my video from several posts ago, AurbaBob (aka Kent) takes his guests snorkeling at this spot. Well, here’s a video showing you how to drive there. Just take the 1A from the hotel area, south toward San Nicolaas, past the airport, and my video picks up as you approach the traffic light at Balashi.

That was easy. You’ll see people gather here for the sunset, too. Maybe check out Mangel Halto the next time you’re in Aruba. Bon dia.
