Digging into the archives, I found photos of the sinking of the Delilah, an old tugboat that finally found new life as an artificial reef.
The photo is a scan from an negative, with the original image made in the late 1990’s. Here’s a fuzzy shot of the last moments of the sinking:
In fact, I think this was in January of 1998 off the mouth of the Delaware Bay. Surely the hulk is still down there making a home for sea creatures.
The old saying goes, “Buy real estate. They aren’t making any more.” Well, that’s generally true. However, in some places, they are making real estate. Take a look at this recent photo from New York City:
The contractor built a sheet piling wall and then filled in behind it. Looks like they’re also building a new pier there, which is essentially real estate above the water. Either way, it seems NYC is gains a few acres here.
Here’s another photo from the dredging of the back basin at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. This time, you see the survey boat checking the depth.
There was also some moorings built during this project. I hope to get some more photos soon. Stay tuned.

Philadelphia Fire Boat (circa 2000)
The previous post showed my old Nikon F3 HP. As mentioned, I put many rolls of film through that camera. Some shots were good, others not so much. I happened to be on the Delaware River during OpSail 200o and took this snap of the Philadelphia Fire Boat leading the parade of sailing ships.
The above image is a scan from a negative. A little dusty here and there. Nonetheless, you get the idea of this rugged little craft and it’s capabilities. Will be putting a few more photos up soon. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
