Avalanche, Aruba

The white cat pictured below lives down the road from my house. I see him frequently on my way to and from my shack. He’s got a bit of a mean disposition, doesn’t take any crap from anyone or other animals. I saw him backing down a dog a few days ago. Hence the name, AVAL, as in avalanche. Here’s his pic:

Aval as in Avalanche, an Aruban cat.

More Aruban cat photos on the way. A word to the wise… if you see this guy sleeping on the step, don’t bother him. Bon dia.

Tux (still on patrol)

Tux, the little stray cat that hangs out by shack in Aruba, showed up mere minutes after my arrival on the island. This morning, I found him on the patio chair, awaiting his rations. Here he is:

Tux on the patio chair.

This guy does a darn good job keeping the small varmints away. Hence, he’s in my good graces and entitled to liberal feeding and protection from his nemesis, Ashburn, another cat that prowls the area but is quite mean. Tux and Ashburn got into a few scraps back in March. The fur was flying. Seems like Tux has held his territory this time, with no dents in his small hull. Plus, Tux is a handsome bugger, friendly, too.

Iguana Hatchery

Aruba is well known for its many iguanas. If you like to observe large numbers of these creatures in action, head over to the Seaport Marina, out by the ocean. You’ll find herds of them in various sizes like this one:

It seems he’s guarding his post there by the sea. He wasn’t alone, either. I counted at least another ten, and after a short walk toward the Renaissance timeshare building, there were probably another ten. If you have your kids along for a visit to Aruba it would be good material for a little science report. I once read that iguanas can become addicted to lettuce and end up killing themselves by not eating other matter with more nutritional value. Incredible. Bon dia.

Aruba’s Pet Burial Ground

On the southeast tip of Aruba, there is a solemn place where pets are buried. I’ve updated the video to better quality. Here it is:

We all love our pets and this place gives them a peaceful final resting place.
