Ruf and Tumbull

There are too many stray cats in Aruba. I wish I could do more for them, but there’s only so much that one can do. I’m trying to gather up some photos of the ones I see. Here are two that aren’t exactly strays, but they are outdoor cats and as you can see, one has got himself banged up a little. I’ve named them Ruf and Tumbull.

ruftumblI see these two most every day here in Savaneta. They lounge during the day then prowl all night. That’s how they get into trouble. These two characters look a little mean; wouldn’t mess with them as they’re probably a tag team in a brawl.

Be kind to animals, it will help you get into heaven.

Cool Cats

During a book signing event at the Hyatt Hotel and Resort in Aruba, I spotted these cats taking in the shade beneath the flowers on the veranda.

hyatt_cats1They had several guests wrapped around their little paws. Food and water was left for them, which they indulged in liberally before stretching out for a nap. They have it pretty good for a couple of strays. I hope they find a decent home and stay out of trouble.

Cat in Flight

I love cats and I love to fly but I wouldn’t expect my cat to go flying. Not in a small plane anyway. Well, check out this video:

That’s Iris the Bengal Cat on the dashboard while this fellow lands his Cessna 172. Beautiful landing and Iris provided her compliments to the pilot.

Gotta love those cats but I think the better part of safety would be to strap them in. Just saying.

One Happy Cat, Aruba

Along the main road in Aruba, you’ll find guys selling fresh fish from wooden tables. The make-shift stands are very popular among the Arubans. Some are literally “drive-up” operations. The customers pull off the road, close enough to the stand to make a purchase without exiting the vehicle. Of course, where there are fresh fish to be had, you’ll typically find a well-fed cat. Here’s a video of one.

That’s quite a fish lying there on the table. And that cat likes his share of the scraps. I’ll be posting a few follow-up videos showing the other stands and cats. They’re lots of fun.
