During a book signing event at the Hyatt Hotel and Resort in Aruba, I spotted these cats taking in the shade beneath the flowers on the veranda.
They had several guests wrapped around their little paws. Food and water was left for them, which they indulged in liberally before stretching out for a nap. They have it pretty good for a couple of strays. I hope they find a decent home and stay out of trouble.

The Hyatt Hotel in Aruba serves a fantastic Sunday brunch. I posted photos before. This time, I’ve made a short video. I left out the breakfast foods, but rest assured, there is every type of breakfast item on offer. Take a look at the video.
Also not shown in the video are the excellent waiters who make this brunch as good as it is. They’re on top of everything. The mimosas stay full, the coffee fresh, the soiled plates disappear as if by magic. Plus, they’re friendly without being officious and congenial without disturbing your meal. Over the years I’ve gotten to know several of the staff. It’s always a pleasure seeing them.
Wow, the Sunday Brunch at the Hyatt Hotel in Aruba is something to behold. I have a few photos posted here but they don’t even begin to cover everything that’s on offer. Before we get to that, I want to send a word of thanks to Debbi, the nice lady in the photo with me below. She’s been seating me at this feast for years now; she’s also glad my novel, An Island Away, is finally available. She’s watched me writing bits and pieces in between bites over the years. So, Masha Danki, Debbi!
Like every Sunday Brunch, Hyatt has a station where your omelets are made to order. They also make Eggs Benedict to order. Standard, right? How about shrimp and oysters and such like this, not to mention caviar just out of the frame.

I didn’t get a shot of the soups, the three hot entrees, nor the waffles, pancakes, and french toast, nor the bacon and sausage, nor the mountains of fresh fruit. However, here is a shot of the carving station featuring roast beef and roast pork loin.

There are bananas foster made to order as well as a machine cranking out fresh donuts. And for the finale, here are some of the deserts…
All of this gets washed down with unlimited mimosas, coffee, tea, and various fresh-squeezed juices. In other words, this is a feasting event that you shouldn’t miss. The best part is, you only eat this one meal and skip the rest on Sunday. If your appetite is bigger than that, be careful. You could hurt yourself.
We’re on to the second part of the photo essay of the Hyatt Hotel in Aruba. We left off on our way into the grounds that form the central part of the complex.
Down the steps you go, across that bridge there, noting the water, the black swans, the parrots in their cages who might call out to you. A little further on, you see that the stream flows down to the swimming pools.
There are several pools here, one with a slide that plunges anyone willing to take the ride into the cool, refreshing water. Looking back, you’ll see the waterfalls.
Then there are the restaurants that front the koi pond where those black swans I mentioned also glide along from time to time.
In the evening the torches are lit and the lights in the pond. The place oozes romance. During the day it is just as beautiful. And then there are the bars next to the beach.
This is another haunt of mine. There was a bartender here that used to make me laugh so much I couldn’t get any writing done. He should have been a comedian. Maybe he was. Whatever the case, I enjoyed many an afternoon at this spot, scribbling in my notebook, watching people, and hacking through stories. For those interested in something a bit more nutritious, there is a juice bar beside the regular bar. Good thing, too, as sometimes we need a shot of vitamins to propel us through the afternoon.
Well, now you’ve had a look at the Hyatt in Aruba. I can still see my characters from An Island Away, acting out their parts here at this hotel. I think it is important to put characters into real places, locations that readers can see for themselves. It lends authenticity and provides an additional connection to the reader, which furthers the concept that a book is a dialog between the author and the reader. Just something to think about.
