Cactus Jack’s, Aruba

Cactus Jack’s is a fun restaurant that just opened in “The Village,” a new commercial development in the high-rise hotel area of Aruba. I decided to give this place a try because I had a hankering for rotisserie chicken. Here’s what it said on the menu.

balashi_menuI didn’t hesitate and promptly ordered up the above mentioned item. However, first I started with the shrimp as an appetizer and here’s what arrived at the table.

cactusjacks_shrimpReaders of this blog know that I’m not a beer drinker, so that Amstel Bright is the possession of my wife. Anyway, the rotisserie chicken came a short while later. I was not disappointed as you can see from the following photo.

cactusjacks_chickenThat’s plenty of food, almost enough for two people. And it was excellent. Cooked thoroughly but still juicy on the inside, exactly the way I like it. If you’re staying in the high-rise area from the Holiday Inn down to the Westin, you can easily walk to this joint and any others in its vicinity. For a quick, casual, reasonably priced meal, Cactus Jack’s should be on the list.

Druif Beach, Aruba

Druif Beach is a swath of sand located near the Tamarijn Resort in Aruba. It’s not the largest beach on the island, but it certainly is quite nice. Here’s a photo, looking north west.

beach_tamThere’s plenty of room there to stretch out and soak up the sun. This season there were few crowds here. It was slightly crowded a few Sunday afternoons, but nothing to complain about. Of course the adjacent Caribbean is balmy and inviting, one more reason Aruba is such a popular vacation destination.

Harleys at Charlie’s

This post is for my brother-in-law. He and his wife have a pair of Harley-Davidson motorcycles and enjoy riding them most everywhere. Of course, driving to Aruba would be difficult. The good news is you can rent a Harley here on the island and take a guided tour or go exploring on your own. One of the regular stops on the tour is Charlie’s Bar, my favorite watering hole. Here’s a look at the bikes parked out front.

charlieharley_1That’s a nice selection of hardware there. While I’m not much of motorcycle enthusiast, I appreciate the vibe. It has to be a barrel of fun, especially on a Caribbean isle, just rolling along, sunshine on you, breeze blowing, taking in the sights. Nice way to ride.

charlieharley_2There in the background you see Charlie’s Bar, a San Nicolaas institution since 1941. On or off your bike, join us here for some refreshment. And please wear you helmet!

Quickie Lickie, Aruba

The Quickie Lickie Laundromat in Aruba received some great publicity the other night. They were featured on the Jay Leno’s show. Here is a copy of the article form the Bon Dia newspaper.

quicklickartFortunately, I have my own washing machine and clothes line here at my shack on the island. No need to avail myself of the Quickie Lickie services. You have to admit, that is a great name for the business. Catchy, informative, perfect.
