Trattoria San Nicola, Paoli

Enjoyed a tasty lunch at Trattoria San Nicola in Paoli, PA, USA. Of course, this is an Italian spot, one I’ve passed many times. At last, stopped in and was impressed by both the food and service. Started with some salads, one a simple mixed greens you see here:

The other salad featured roasted peppers and sun-dried tomatoes that you see next:

Moving on to the entrees, let’s begin with the grilled swordfish that you see here:

And finally, a tried and true veal parm with veggies on the side:

Service for the whole meal was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. I look forward to returning to San Nicola for a supper to try other dishes and maybe some wine. There’s ample parking and the place is easy to find along Route 30. Enjoy every meal. (Next time I’ll be sure to take the Nikon 1 AW to snap photos. These were taken with the iPhone and leave much to be desired.)

Esquina de Miega, Cambados, Spain

On the main street through the center of old Cambados, Spain, you’ll find Esquina de Miega, a local joint where I enjoyed a nice lunch.

This is a friendly place that serves the local menu of the day. Take a seat with the locals.

Started with a nice octopus and ensalada rusa, as part of the menu al dia, both of which you see in the next photo:

Moved on to the main course of roast pork with fries. Simple and tasty as you see here:

These plates would not have been complete without a nice bottle of albariño to enhance the experience. Here’s the one I enjoyed:

It was a great lunch served by friendly and cheerful people. It was interesting to hear “bachata” style music playing there. I usually associate that type of music with the Caribbean, but it seems it has spread in popularity. At any rate, more from Spain coming tomorrow!

Cerveceria Rua Bella, Santiago (2014)

As long as we’re on the subject of food in Santiago de Compostela, let’s stop in to Cerveceria Rua Bella.

You can sit outside in the front or back, as well as inside:

They serve all your favorite dishes here including this ensalada italiana as they call it:

That salad was big enough to share and share we did. And if you like chipirones, check this plate out:

There was also a nice dish of sausages cooked in wine that you see next:

Of course, we must have the local desert, Santiago cake with an ice-cold Coca-Cola.

What a great meal, served by friendly people, and enjoyed to the max. Another example of Spanish local flavor that you can enjoy in this famous city. Try as many as you can.

Jaime Beriestain, restaurant, Barcelona, Spain

Jaime Beriestain Restaurant sports an upscale, cool vibe, with many dishes you’ll recognize, yet they have an updated flair. Here’s a look at the exterior with seating on the sidewalk:

The green salad you see next was bursting with flavor and the crunch of fresh vegetables:

And here’s their take on patatas bravas:

There were two sauces for the patatas bravas. I though the red one needed more zing. Then there was the plate of jamón iberico, which was very good indeed:

Service was generally detached and inattentive. I would have appreciated better service. However, the food is very creative, including the sweets that are worth tasting and maybe taking some home:

If you’re looking for a creative meal, this may be the place, if you don’t mind waiters who may be otherwise occupied.
