Impromptu Book Signing, Aruba

Rita and her husband have read all my books, including the latest, Dark Currents. Naturally, they’re big fans of Aruba, too, and happened to be on the island last week. Since they toted Dark Currents all the way from Connecticut, it was time for an impromptu book signing at Scott’s Brats, one of my favorite joints on Palm Beach.

People are always smiling when they’re in Aruba. The island has that effect on you. So does a good book! Enjoy the reading.

My friend Claudia, Aruba

Claudia has to be one of the most popular people on Palm Beach, Aruba. Her warm smile and engaging personality welcome friends and strangers alike. She used to tend bar at the Kibrihacha Bar, but has since moved over to The Beach Bar, near the Playa Linda. Here’s a photo of Claudia and I together.

I’ve known Claudia for quite a few years now. She puts up with my poorly spoken Spanish and teaches me the correct way to say things. She also makes a fine drink. So, if you’re on Palm Beach during your visit to Aruba, stop by and say hello. Bon dia.

Fusion, Aruba

No, they’re not making nuclear power in Aruba (yet). However, there is a new restaurant called Fusion. It’s located in the recently remodeled/expanded mall area along side the Alhambra Casino. It has a lounge-type feel, complete with piano player, mood lighting, and a sort of tapas menu. Here’s a look at the scene:

Plenty of clever lighting there on the racks of top-shelf booze. Note the piano set into the bar. You can sit right there if you like. In the interest of good cheer, we began the evening with a glass of bubbly as you can see here.

That was a great way to kick things off. In the interest of snacking, we went with a cured meats plate backed by an assortment of cheese. Here are the orders side by side.

Tasty and appropriate portions for two, perhaps three, because they are a bit heavy. Since this was strictly a snack mission, we didn’t enjoy any other plates, which is a good reason to return soon. Here’s a look at the menu board to see the many items on offer.

Fusion is a great addition to the low-rise area of Aruba. People at Casa del Mar, Costa Linda, Bucuti, and Manchebo can simply stroll down for a bite, enjoy the music, and have a fine time. Bon dia.

Carnival Valor, arrives Aruba

From the gym yesterday, I noticed an approaching cruise ship. It turned out to be the Carnival Valor. Snapped this pic:

Aruba is “one happy island.” I’m sure the passengers arriving were a happy bunch as well. What’s your favorite cruise line and port of call? Bon dia.
